3 hours of trying and kotor still doesn't work.

It's not like I've got a old machine or anything... that game just doesn't like me

System-specs:
PIV 2,4GHz on a P4S8X Mobo
Radeon 9500 pro (newest driver)
512 ram
win2k SP4

I doubleclick the exe, then comes that nice Ebon Hawk picture, then black screen... then desktop with the following error:

swkotor.exe caused errors and is closed. Restart the program.

An error protocol is made.

(my translation of the error is a bit bad. Original Error in german:
Programmfehler
swkotor.exe hat Fehler verursacht und wird geschlossen. Starten Sie das Programm neu.

Ein Fehlerprotokoll wird erstellt.

PS:
oh yeah, win2k is installed on drive D: and kotor is installed on drive L: (don't know if that caused the error)

Do you have the latest Direct X? If not, try that. Also, try disabling the sound. Sometimes that works.

Try downloading the latest patch from bioware.
And if all your drivers are upto date, try contacting bioware themself, they might have better advice.
