How long do you wait for Scather?

After Thrommy leaves how many days do you wait until you should expect a visit from him on the road delivering Scather? I have heard both 20 and 14 days as reponses...anything official?

I'd like to know this as well. I've now waited over 20 days (approximately 22) and haven't received the reward for rescuing the prince yet.

Is there somewhere in particular I need to be wandering to have this encounter? I've tried going back'n'forth between Nulb and Hommlet mostly, but did a few treks to other spots. No luck yet...just a bunch of random encounters worth small bits of exp.

I have waited longer than those estimates - it may be a wait period before Thrommel's party gets mixed into the random encounters - so maybe it's random after (x) days.

But I'm not sure, other than knowing I've waited well past 22 days.

i travel to homlet and rest 20 days then run back and forth between homlet and nulb and after about the third time i see them.

The time it takes to get the reward is totally random.

My basis for saying this is:

DQ = Did Quest

Runned through the game 11 times,
First time: didn't do quest, didn't know but had Fragarach (kill Thrommel)
2nd time: DQ, after 6 days the couriers shoved up, normal reward.
3rd time: DQ, Knew swords, made party to fit (CG's) waited 32 days, mormal reward.
4th time : DQ, Same, but one CG, waited 13 days, normal reward.
5th time : DQ, TN party, with LN, CN, TN, Ng & NE PC's : 10 days
6th time : DQ, Pure CG party - i waited 45 days + special reward!
7th time : DQ, LG party - waited 2 days, got sword Homlet-E.Meadow. + special reward.
8th time

Q, LE party - destroy sword quest-still goth bonus by Killing Thrommel - waited over 2 months (60+ days)- lost count
9th time : DQ, The mges - N.Goods - still waiting - (over 90 days) - pending...
10th time : DQ, 5 Clerics-NG party Al-got sword at once (2nd/3rd trip)
!!th time : DQ, Solo Char - CG- Got sword after 8 days.

The strange is, each time i get the sword bonus i also get first 2000 PP, then some worthless medallions and a ring +1 for each PC and finally the sword.

But, with my pure CG party & my LG party i also got to chooce a magical item of choice. I chose a Pendant that increased caster level by +4 for Clerics, but it was broken.

Among others, i think i could choose +1 Arrows(20) or a ring +1 or +2, or an armor that was simply to weak.by then.(don't remember to clearly).

I didn't think to reload theese encounters since i was waiting for the Scather, but i think it has something to do with alignment.

Also note that my Solo PC (CG) didn't get extra items.

I remember now, thanks to Greywulf, the item i took was Necklace of Prayer Beads. The other items were the same as in Greywulf's post below.

My party is Neutral Good with a mix of chaotic good sprinkled in. After 36 days, I finally got the reward. I had given up, and went back to level 4 to battle Hedrack, and then on my way out (when I was totally loaded with loot), they showed up. Great timing guys. Almost all the reward items ended up in the river, impossible to find.

So I restored from just after defeating Hedrack, and then made it to Nulb safely to unload the loot. Then I took a trip to Hommlet, and the very next encounter was the reward.

Maybe it was just lucky timing, but it seemed like defeating Hedrack may have helped trigger them showing up.

BTW, I can't equip Scather on my character with Bastard Sword proficiency. It seems to be a Greatsword. I'd heard about the damage thing before, but I thought the sword still functioned as a bastard sword for proficiency, but that doesn't seem to be the case. FYI, I'm not using any patches besides the "official" ones. Next time thru the game, I'm going to try the Co8 patch, but wanted to see how the game plays without it.

I freed Thrommel on day 18 @ 5:07 and then traveled back and fortha round the map.
On day 32 @ 11:23, I ran into his party (2 weeks/14 days later).

I had Thrommel's necklace in my possession, and his knight said, "...as holder of the medallion, you may select one of these fine items:"
...and, in addition to the badges, rings, platinum, and Scather, I could choose from:
1. necklace of prayer beads
2. +1 shield
3. +2 cloak of resistance
4. 12-1st level wizard scrolls (mgc miussile, mage armor, sleep, shock grasp, ray/enfeeble, true strike, charm pers, exp retreat, grease, identify, obsc mist, and summ monst I)

If it matters, the PCs are all CG but I play as a NG party.

And, BTW, I also freed Tillahi right before Thrommel, and after getting Thrommel's reward, I have traveled an additional 27 days (41 all together since freeing Tillahi), and haven't seen hide nor hair of her people.

Go figure.
As Mulligan said, I think it is fairly random - I'm sure a certain amount of time has to pass, but I also think you have to NOT get another random monster encounter.

But who knows?

Oh, and, Kal:

Install the Co8 patch - my fighter has bast sword prof and wields both Fragarach and Scather 2-weapon style.
