Instead of wasting time with ToEE in its heavily bugged state, assuming you are having trouble with the bugs (which do not seem to affect all players at all equally), here's really good news!

NWN might not have the marvelous tactical combat interface that ToEE has, but it does have humor, interaction with npc's, and actual stories that are both fun to learn about, and interesting. HotU has gone gold, and a 12-2 release date has been announced.

HotU is an expansion for Neverwinter Nights, from Bioware. It's not a PARTY type RPG; you only have one player character, and are forced to bring along hirelings in order to win the combat scenes. HotU is the acronym for "Hordes of the Underdark", and focuses on fighting the Drow, Duergar, and other dwellers in darkness from the FR fantasy world environment.

Have you downloaded both the Offical Patch and the Circle of Eight Fan Fix Mod?

Of course, be warned that I have heard of a few people that have had some problems with both the patch and the fan fix installed, although I'm not sure if they were using the older version or the new one. However, even so, I believe the the fan fix is a must have, if for no other reason then allowing Read Magic to identify potions.

As for playing Neverwinter Nights, well when it first came out I gave it a brief try, but I just couldn't get into the story, partly because it was *TOTALLY* apparent who the 'bad guy' in the first town was (ANd it always rubbed me the wrong way that Detect Evil didn't seem to be in the game at all,), well that plus I'm deathly allergic to the 25 Point Buy system (I believe they should at least give you the option of choosing the different options under the Point Buy system.)

Just roll your stats outside the game then and hack a save . I've done it with ToEE now to get a PnP party into the game.

No detect evil

As well as having no detect evil, no one seems to react to much of what you did in NWN.
I remember slaughtering the entire temple in the first city while Aribeth (The Paladin) stood there quite calmly, quite immune to any form of damage, and quite oblivious to the fact that I've just butchered all her fellow followers of Tyr.
I always found it annoying that you couldn't just say "screw the plot they want." It was just too linear, without enough deviations. No matter what your allignment, it was always the same thing, with a remarkably lame attempt at different motivations.
Though on the other hand it was nice that you could attempt to bash down doors, something that is decidedly lacking in ToEE.
The text Duke!!! Don't say the text!!
