Scalping the scalper

Post by DraySkullan »

OK, I dont like Renal Bloodscalper. Never have. Now I've lost my guild because I was gone for too long, and when I go to buy it back, it takes my money and all, but still doesnt give my guild back. That's ok, I think I've already done the stronghold quests. My question is, has anybody fought Renal? Any good loot? Any negative effects on the rest of the game? I'm assuming I shouldnt go after him at least until I've recued Imoen, since it's Shadow Thief related.

DraySkullan. I had the same problem keeping the Guild I would alway come back and have to pay more money to get it back. It just got to the point where I would not even buy it back it was just a waste of time and money.

I find that the Theif stronghold is the least satisfying of them all, and didn't care much when I lost ocntrol of it. I veiw it as a major inconvience, and pain in the ass.

OK, well, first of all, SAVE before trying to kill him.

First of all, the shadow theives won't like you. So don't go about doing it until chapter 6 (note that if you accept Bodhi's deal for chapter 3 then he'll disappear).
Next up, when you try to kill him, Arkanis Gath will show up. Now, if you went to the shadow theives for help against bodhi, that's (I believe) who Aran sends, I think he also shows up if you side with Bodhi. However, if you try to kill Renal, he'll show up in Superman form, with Killsw01- a longsword (I believe) that does something like 1D10+1000 damage. It'll go through spell protections (stoneskin, prot. from magical weapons, abs. immunity, improved mantle, etc) as well. He's also got on a belt (I believe it's a twin of Imoen's belt) that prevents him from being killed by physical blows, and I think he's got immunity to magic as well.
So, how to kill him? About the only way I've heard of is to cast Time Stop (he's NOT immune), Shapeshift: Mindflayer, then suck his brains out. I know this worked pre-tob/patch, don't know if it still does.
If you succeed in killing Renal (and Gath therefore as well), you'll get Renal's items, including his boots of speed.

Well, I sure would like to loot that sword from Arkanis... ;)
I don't think I can, though.

Arkanis doesn't have killsw01, he has a beefed up version of short sword of backstabbing. In his superman form that is.

Kind of like whoever it is that hits you if you piss off Maevar. THAT threw me off, let me tell you.

"Look, Maevar, I want more loot for doing this."

(((((((((((((((( UPDATE )))))))))))))))))

I was playing the end of SOA, so when my party came back to Athlkatla after the underdark I thought I would stop by the old guild, take out Renal and get those boots! Note that I took the thieves side in chapter 2 and got rid of Maevar's guild for Renal, but did not accept the guild (way too much trouble for a half-orc on a mission like me :) )

Anyway, I went to the guild and went upstairs and got ready to take on Gath the superassassin - I cast death ward on my PC which i have read is one way to stop his attack, and got ready to whirlwind him with the chaos blade, but when I attacked Renal, NO GATH!

which of course makes sense because it is NOT essential to the plot that you stay in good graces with the thieves at this point.

I wacked all of Renals goons and him, took the boots and walked right out of there, no problem! So for everyone who wants some stylish footwear, just wait til chapter six and it's -no- -big- -deal- :D
