Improved Mace of Disruption kicks posterior!

Post by Xyx »

What's the enchantment level of this thing? It's "only +2", but I killed Kangaxx the Demilich in one hit with it, and the Lesser Demon Lord in the Temple of Lolth in two (one lucky critical). I thought both of these guys required a +4 or better weapon?

Upgraded mace of disruption has a chance to kill any undead being in a single hit, that's why you whacked Kangaxx. :D

Guess what? I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!

The upgraded mace has a dirty little secret- it hits as +5. Therefore it can hit Kangaxx. It also kills undead upon contact, less a save vs. death of course. As to the Lesser Demon Lord, a couple of lucky hits maybe?

Dang! I had no idea...poor Kangaxx is getting it worse and worse all the time! I have felt like the upgraded mace is a little unbalancing against the vampires and especially shadows, who are essentially made joke-like by it, but this is too much.

I think the upgraded mace was essentially an easter egg that got so well publicized that it is now standard procedure.

somebody in tob forum posted devas carry mace of disrupt +2...

I confirmed that with cntrl q.....

forget getting the mace, send in devas against the undead!!!!

the only rational for getting devas at all, since planetars are SO good, is to use on undead....

I wonder whaat would happen if you cast prot from undead on a deva? Would you be able to send in a deva to whack a demi lich?

I've tried deathward on summons in an attempt to make them immune to death spell, did not work, but a prot scroll might work....

nah...my old fav, immunity to abjuration and energy blades always work on any lich...or for lesser liches, inc cloud always interrupts spell casting....
too bad those buggers can see invisible, would love to sneak up and backstab with mace via mislead and custom thief mage cleric....

It's not as if you have any choice. ;) One is a level 7 Cleric spell, the other a level 9 wizard spell. The Deva is quite good for a level 7 spell, actually. Only level spells my Ranger/Cleric memorizes are Deva and Nature's Beauty.

I now press the Turn Undead button and watch them explode in a shower of chunks. :D I never realized Turn Undead was this much fun at high levels.

Oh, it is, it is...if you have anomen or a good aligned single or dual class cleric, hit that button and whoosh!!! Makes those undead battles like the lower reaches of the unseeing eye a 6 second battle. I've heard a lot of people say "oh i never use turn undead"...missing out! It's the best reason to have a single class good cleric.

Will a multi Mage/Cleric get turn undead good enough to chunk liches and such?? If so, what level?

I, ah, chunked my first Lich at 20. :D Of course, I made sure I didn't meet any Liches before that...

Apart from the enormous entertainment value, I wouldn't exactly say that Turn Undead is in any way required. Amulet of Power or Mace of Disruption both get the job done as well, only slower.

I only have one cleric, aerie...since I refuse to get anomen...just a matter of being able to keep my lunch...

so lich blasting will happen at lv 20, what about lower?

since I have so little cleric support, I sure go thru potions and rod of ressurection a lot, and I have sorcerous methods of dealing with undead anyway...

my fav is at temple ruins, position my sorc very casrefully, and cast a project image that very carefully hits the liches, my osrc is cheated at very high level, and blasts the area with about 8 inc clouds. kills the image and flash fries all the liches and mummies almost instantly.

the skelly warriors survive!!!

gotta be the best testamonial to skelly warriors I have ever seen, 7 stacked inc clouds!!!

Seems to vary per Lich. Deirex refused to explode in a shower of body parts, even though I was level 22. How inconsiderate. :D He would only mindlessly run in fear and bump into the wall while I spanked him with the Flail...

You have to be pretty high level before Turn Undead becomes fun. Vamps, Skeleton Warriors, Shadow Fiend and Liches are worthwhile, but Ghasts and Skeletons are only target practice...

For the record...

I'm capped out now (8M XP), and have never memorized a Cure or Heal spell... Haven't drained the Rod of Resurrection yet, and still had over 20 Potions of Extra Healing in the Potion Case (thank BioWare for that thing!). I don't rest often either...

Slight spoilers:

@UserFriendly. Another + for skelly warriors - I just beat mr. J. I. in the elven city for the first time, and after trying a few things I backed away so that I could summon things and slowly make him waste his spells.
First summon (skelly warrior) kicked the bucket after one spell, but the next started by resisting what he threw at it.
Actually it resisted _everything_ he threw at it and the big I died to a lowly(?) skelly warrior...

No, you still don't need Devas, as someone has posted how fun turn undead can be, and it's about the same time you get that lousy "high level" summon.
I'm not so strictly lawful neutral

I think Devas are very decent for level 7 Cleric spells, and good for much more than just killing Undead. Undead aren't a real problem at this level anyway; you easily melee any of them to death (including the Liches).

Don't make the mistake of comparing them to Planetars... Clerics get their first Deva at 1.35M XP, while Mages only get their first Planetar at 3M XP. That's quite the difference! Mage spells are generally more powerful than Cleric spells anyway.

At level 7, clerics don't really have much more interesting spells to memorize than a Deva, IMO. Greater Restoration maybe. Implosion is so-so, the Symbols suck, Gate is too much of a bother and actually even weaker than the Deva.
