Save-game converter... fallout2

Post by Vicsun »

I finally deceided to install the 1.02 patch, and I found out that it made my games invalid... Quoting from the readme:

The patch will invalidate saved games from version 1.0. To transfer
your character from 1.0 to the final patch version use the save
game character transfer utility found on the Fallout 2 Web Page in
the Files section.

However there seems to be no converter on the page... If I were looking for windows themes, release party movies, line art, loading screens or desktop backgrounds with or without logos I would be in luck. However sadly I wasn't.
I also checked nma-fallout.com, finding the converter there just to get a "file not found" error when I tried downloading. Just not my luck.
And to complete my tragedy when I tried to register at their forums to ask, I found out that they have banned hotmail e-mail adresses. Now since my hotmail is my only mail account atm (yeah I know, but changing providers often usually results in a change in email and I can't keep up with giving people my new email) I am doomed to not being able to post on their forums.

So, is there anyone who would be kind enough to give me a link to a fallout2 save-game converter?
Vicsun, I certainly agree with your assertion that you are an unpleasant person. ~Chanak

I'm not sure one actually exists due to this statement from Black Isle:
Black Isle Studios will not be undertaking the creation of a character transfer utility for Fallout 2.

This decision is largely due to unexpected personnel changes, the complexity of the original Fallout 2 code, and issues with the way the engine stores character and game state data. Because of these factors, I do not feel we could provide you with a reliable utility.

Another factor in this decision is the limited scope and usefulness of such a utility. Since a save game converter would not be possible, we were only planning a character converter. It would have transferred character data from one savegame to a new game. This utility was expected to bring over most of your stats, levels, and perks - but no inventory and no game state information. You would have been starting the game over with a higher-level character only. This utility was only for those who are not playing the patched version and wanted to continue playing there current character on the patched version.

I realize that many of you will be disappointed or upset with this decision. However I feel it is better than releasing a possibly flawed character converter of limited use.
