Mouseproblems in older RPGs

Post by oki101 »

Since I got my new PC, I have a problem playing "older" RPGs.

In Baldurs Gate 1 & 2 and Icewind Dale 1 my mouse doesn`t work properly. When I try to click one of the ability-buttons on the ingame screen it acts like a double click. The button clicks (I can hear the sound and see it go in) but nothing more happens. :(
Is this related to my mouse or is it Xp Home Edition that does it.

My mouse is a Logitech Cordless Mouseman Optical and the driver version is 9.73.000

Another question. :D
The above mentioned games also goes too fast, if you understand what I mean. The caracters run like they have "boots of speed" and "haste" on constantly.
I know you can set something called "compatibility mode" on but how does this work and how do you do it.

Then just to brag :D :D , here are my machine specs
Intel Pentium 4 2,53 GHz
512 MB Ram
Ati Radeon 9700 Pro
DVD-Rom
CDRW-burner
19" monitor
120 GB Harddrive
Win XP Home Edition

It`s a Dell Dimension 4550, which I got really cheap through my dad`s work. 50% off retail price   at a total of 1700 $ at the current exchange rates.

Damn that's a PC.
I played BG1+2 and IWD1+2 on my p4 1,4Ghz, with windows CP home-edition, and I don't have nay problems.
You could try (re)installing you're mouse driver (XP uses a universal driver).

Also I could recommand to play all games from the windows95/98 period in w95/98 mode (rightclick the shortcut icon and select it under compatability)

I hope this helps.

Also about the running, I had that idea when I got my new PC, but it turned out my old one was to slow
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
