What's your favourit flavour of cheese? (Spoiler Alert!)

Post by NiteWulf »

Quite self-explaining the title, of all the dirty, low-to-the-ground cheese tricks you read here or found out, which trick do you use the most and which one would you consider "The Master Gorgonzola"?

My personal most often used cheese trick is the "close-the-door-with-booming-spells-on-the-other-side-trick": you open the door leading to the monsters, throw in the cloudkills/summoned animals etc. and close the door again.

Master Gorgonzola IMO is: Kill unbeatable opponents by Shapeshift mindflayer/intelligent drain.

What're yours?

I wouldn't call either of those real cheese. For me, cheese is when you exploit the game engine to do something that is not supposed to happen. Throwing a cloudkill spell into a room and shutting the door may be cowardly, but it sounds perfectly logical to me.

I reckon the biggest cheese is when you unfairly anticipate what's coming next. Putting traps on what you know are the monster spawning points before the bad guy even shows up. Buffing up for a confrontation that your character shouldn't know is about to happen. Not wasting points in your character's charisma because you know how to get hold of a certain ring very early in the game. That sort of thing.

And the classic cheese - running away from a fight, grabbing 8 hours sleep just round the corner and then running back to find the bad guys just standing where you left them. As if!

@Nitewulf

For the ultimate cheese, you have to hand it to User.

Do a search on UserUnfriendly's posts and you will be hit with a goldmine of cheese exploits. I have learned a thing or two from him myself. :)

Cheers.

My favorite cheese is killing Kangaax with a double row of traps and the Ring of the Ram. Even though there are easier ways to get the job done, I was so tickled with figuring this out that I keep doing it. I even considered temporarily getting Yoshi to set the traps when I was soloing a bard, but I restrained myself.

I also like slamming the doors on a group of mindflayers with a cloudkill or two. A variant on this is walking invisibly into the midst of a party, throwing a cloudkill at my feet and turning invisible again so that they congregate in the center of the poison. And yes this is cheese because an intelligent opponent would open the door or at least run out of the cloud. Only the faulty AI allows it to work.

I would have to call the Master Gorgonzola using Mislead to do multiple backstabs but mainly because I have never been able to get it to work. (I think because I was trying it on a lich who could see through the illusion.) Sort of the holy grail of cheesing as far as I am concerned.

User! You are back! :D :p

My own favourite cheese is setting multiple traps (killed Kangy and Demogorgon that way) and summoning more than 1 planetar. Absolutely the best of summons. :)

My fav would have to be using the spell "feeblemind" on dragons while they're still not hostile (blue circle underneath). Keep casting feeblemind until one finally gets thru (you'll see the dragon glow a red kind of colour) and then you can attack them without the dragon fighting back :) Rather unfair I'll admit, I actually think they asphyxiate on the cheese value more than the beating they recieve :P Can be handy for taking out dragons when your only a low level.

Another would be using something like the sling of everard(sp?), it's the +5 sling you can buy from one of the bonus merchants, on Iron and Ademite golems while they're stuck. In a way I can sort of see how this could be possible.............. Golems arn't really intellegent things, they're like a computer. Can only preform functions they've been programmed to do. If they only command a golem was given is something like "attack anything that comes into this hallway" then I can see how a person could use the simple command against the golem.

eg. When I set foot into the hallway the golem's programming kicks in and it immediately tries to attack me. I could run through a door and due to the golem's poor instructions it might keep trying to attack, despite it being obvious that it wont be able to reach me. I could stand a couple of feet out of its reach and hurl bullets at the beast while it keeps trying to get thru the doorway.............. An example of poor instructions would be the golem you give the ward stone too in the first dungeon.

WB User :) I noticed that you made a bit of an apperance on the Morrowind forum............... are you still playing? I didn't even finish the game myself. Restarted about 4 times but never finished. BG2 continues to be my all time fav. game :D

You see, BG fan, just use cheese to catch the rabbit....

@Twyze: I think it is cheese, it would be more logical if they'd open or breach the door, wouldn't it? Seen this in many other RPGs, so IMO this IS exploiting the engine.
well, heck, i invented both of them.....

Ah, our furry friend has returned.
As modest as always I see :D :p
and the fun sequential sunfire with mage heavy party....
Ouch.... that's gotta hurt!

Euhmm......is that possible, summoning more then 1 Planetar??
I thought (and experienced it in the final, improved, ToB battle) that just 1 is allowed. Same with Deva's...

My first thought too.

@ Baldurs Gate Fan:

Don't you receive the message "u can only control one of these creatures at a time??

Or did you download some mod or something?

havent hit the morrowind forum in months...someone must have bumped up one of my super cheese posts in morrowind....

btw, the cheese i came up in morrowind are the infamous daedric tower shield with constant effect bound two handed battle axe, most powerful weapon in the game including sunder and keening

(constant effect bound battle axe, and cheating in mephala skill, pre patch, so you can cast skill boosting spells, so you enchant a daedric tower shield with bound axe and all the axe skill boosting you can get...so, the skill boost is around 45 or so, since the bound axe adds 10 points to axe skill.,...elegant, no???)

, and using booster spells to increase jump skill to about 400 and jumping from town to town...

hey, i am a rabbitsu after all,...... :p ;)

real life caught up with me, and busy studying and my hard drive is on its last legs...sigh..

project image and summon until you get bored..lots of fun....

arch, have you tried the tactics mod??? golems get stuck more, but they throw rocks now...hehehhehhe

You are exactly correct. This is why I don't consider this to be true cheese. Golems are AI so it isn't cheesy to exploit them. By the way the same can be done with the Gesen bow and Tansheron's bow.

Cloudkill bypasses Adamantine Golem's magic resistance, even though it shouldn't, so that would be a cheesy way of killing them.

Now that is good thinking. That's exactly what I would do if I were a golem...

No they haven't. I haven't been there in a long time myself. It just didn't hold that.............. something.......... BG2 has. Sorry to hear about the dying hard drive :( Hope you've got everything backed up. Nothing could be worse for me right now if that was too happen. I've hot hundreds of hrs worth of stuff downloaded that I don't have backed up.

Anyway, nice to see some of the regulars are still around :)

The most mischievous thing I ever did is Solaing a whole area.
Typo? No, I mean Solaing as in Sola-ufein. :p
The process substantially consists in recreating the dreadful undead-Sola effect... you equip him like Kuroisan, buff it up like undead Sola, (and why not, throw in an amulet of the Lillim and the boots from the Ritual too if you have them), and then dimension-door him in the middle of an enemy army who was thinking to be quiet and safe (even better if the hapless foes are behind a closed door or wall or anything...)
Needless to say, they do not attack because he's invisible and protected from Divination...
Make sure that is MR is about 100% and he's plain unkillable, and can bomb the area with whatever he likes without harming himself...
Doh. Is this cheesy? Is this... playing? Or can he still be killed in some way I couldn't think of, after all? What's your opinion, folks? ;)
Where we came from, we don't know
Where we're going.... (even worse)
And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

I don't know I don't really feel all that guilty at using cheese, I mean sure you exploit the game engine sure you prepare ahead of time whe and the monsters stay in one spot, it doesn't bother me because in real life you could exploit other little things like for example Firkraag, you should be able to just bring down the cavern right on him, using some variant of a explosion spell, killing him instantly, something you can't obviously do in the game but it would be logical. You could exploit Irenicus's continued long speeches, and just quickly shoot a arrow or bullet at him killing him instantly before he could get all his multifarious spell defenses up, the lich in the City Entrance level could be killed again by collapsing the structure on him, or sneeking up on him, pouding a stake through him, plus in the real world you could also research a lot of stuff ahead of time without resorting to some sort of divinination spell. In the real world there are all sorts of things you could exploit that you can't in the game, so it really doesn't bother me all the cheese, just quid pro pro in my book.

Anyway as to the topic my all time favorite cheese is the swashbuckler combined with all that cheesy Weimar equipment which makes my swashy unkillable, Magic resistance 100 percent, armor class 20, imune to all psionics and charms, I didn't want to go into my character but some of the equipment is really cheesy.

How about sending skeletons and Nishuru together, guaranteed mage killers, thats pretty cheesy.

things to be ware of if your npcs or pcs have obscene magic resistance.....

some spells, like dragon or sunfire ignores magic resistance....

i know of no enemies that use those spells, but that doesnt mean if weimer ever gets the helm of opposite alignment in real life, he might put it on, and become lawful evil, (in real life i consider him chaotic good... :D ) he wont implement that in the tactics mod...

and SPELLS YOU CAST AFFECT YOU... naturally, i need to put "but if you do this, they wont..."

ok, if sola casts inc cloud near himself, and expect his magic resistance to protect him, it wont,,,the game engine says you get hurt by your own spells,....but precast prot from energy and elements on self, and he will actually heal...now interestingly enough, spell immunity evocation will NOT protect him...

skull traps cast on self, the evil and nasty skull fire spell combo, requires prot from magic energy....spell immunity necro wont protect him either...

i too have tried the evil d door exploits, and its fun...

my fav combo is cast prot from elements and energy and chain a triple inc cloud on self, that is wonderfully nasty, as your own area effect damage will heal you...

why energy and elements, why not just stack energy? cause both the balderdash patch and weimer puts something in his mods that prevent spell stacking...

oh yeah, almost forgot....serje, try this...this is a little known cheese effect...

cast inc cloud at a area, and send in someone with mirror image, via ilbratha short sword or the spell...

the mirror image will protect the npc...in fact one by one the images will pop, but you are nice and toasty....
i mean unharmed...sorry...
