Voices at movies

I've just finished IWD II and it's the same with any other of the BG series: any time a movie is played I can hear the music but the voice is just a disorted noice at the background. Anyone has had this ? What can I do about it ?

Need some details, such as operating system, sound card type, directx version.

My first thought is your soundcard drivers, so you might want to try downloading the latest version of them.

That's the question I was afraid of. I'm a computer illiterate. I know my PC is not a Mac but that's about it.

I was kinda hoping someone had had the same problem and could tell me a simple solution.

Well, nevermind. The voices in the movies are not that important.

There are two reasons which I can think fo off the top of my head.

1) Your sound card doesn't have multichannel support, or it is poorly implemented leading to problems delivering the sound.

2) Your machine is to slow to play them, perhaps the CD-ROM drive is poor and it is playing them badly from the CD, perhaps you could transfer them to hard disk and play them then. It is possible to play most of the movies after you have finished the game.

I sometimes get crappy sound when I play games/movies on my machine with AC97 mobo audio. The issue might also be with sub-standard speakers. Ambriox should probably invest a little bit of money in a passable sound card and some decent speakers; I paid $50 (USD) for a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 about a year ago and I run it through Altec Lansing AVS-500 ($40 USD) speakers and it sounds great for 99.99999% of what I use it for. If you don't have the money to spare, you might dial back some of your settings (like turning off movie subtitles) for the movies.

Thanks for the tips guys. But I think I have state of the art equipment. Last year my dog pissed into my PC (don't ask me how he did that). Which was not beneficial to the stuff inside. So I had to buy a whole new PC. I asked the salesman for all the best stuff and had it installed by the computer wiz kid down my street. So I should have a decent soundcard. And I'm not experiencing any problems with the sound in other games.

Maybe HighLordDave is onto something: maybe it's the headphones I'm using. Now I know what to ask the wife for Christmas ...

If the issue is with a single game, you might also want to uninstall and re-install the game (it also helps to pick the full installation rather than the minimum or recommended installations) and make sure you have the latest patch and most recent version of DirectX.

I have little to add to what sleep, flibs, and HLD have mentioned. DirectX is a usual culprit

Only joking. But the dog-incident did happen. When I took the PC to the shop to have it repaired, I had to endure the jokes of the salesmen. When he opened it up and looked at the parts he asked if I had taken the PC into bath with me.
It was beyond repair of course: urine is not a substance you want on your processor or motherboard.
