Soloing with an NPC?
Soloing with an NPC?
I'm new to the board, but I've been playing BG, BG2, TOB for ages.
I'm on my third time through BG2, this time with an all evil party of assassin-fighter, Viconia, Edwin and Korgan. I've started to think about the next time through. I want to solo, but not just any old solo. I want to solo one of the NPCs. That's right - someone with real weaknesses as well as strengths. Instead of trying to roll the best stats I can, I'll go with exactly what the NPC has, including weapon profs.
Now, I know the game is not set up to do this. But here's the idea. I'm going to use character creation or SK to get as close as I can to the stats and equipment for one of the NPCs. Then role play that NPC as far as I can through the game.
What do folks think? Anyone done this before? And which NPC would be the easiest or hardest to solo?

I once tried to solo with an NPC only (I had the PC stand at the door waiting all the time) I got as far as the underdark but couldn't manage to get the beholder eye(and that stuff) in time so...
I've never been a fan of SK, so I can't help you there.
An idea try to go through the game without killing anyone except the bosses. Only use confusion and such. This would be really hard IMO

I think I'll have to object to waht you said tehre Ninja.
IMO if you are a spell caster you can kill anything easely. You can dispose of anyfoe you want to.
The only difference between a fighter and mage is that mages need more slepp than fighters. This sleep gives you the ability to kill ANYTHING easely.
If you do not believe me plz posts something that a mage could not do as good as a fighter?

The easiest npc to solo would probably be Sarevok, Minsc or Korgan.
Or Keldy, a paladin has been known as one of the easiest solo classes. Can´t you just create him as a PC by giving him the same stats/portrait? Don´t how you´d manage with the voice set, though...
Icewind Gate II Improved engine, third edition rules and the full BG2 storyline.
If you ever fall off the Sears Tower, just go real limp, because maybe you'll look like a dummy and people will try to catch you because, hey, free dummy.

Nice idea to solo a NPC.
Altough I hate the original outright - I think a copy of Jaheira could be a competent soloing char, druids become terribly powerful and a fighter class is strongly suggested for soloing.
At the moment I'm "part-time soloing" a dc besercer/cleric (15/9 so far) in BG2 with TDD and sola installed. I parked the rest of the party to level him up faster when he was f12. I think a fighter-type char with access to priestly spells is quite fearsome (altough my fighting abilities are yet a shadow of what they were before dualing).

here are quiet a few reasons whyOriginally posted by MasterDarkNinja
it's easier to solo with classes with more physical strength then magical strength. you should try to solo with another class like the undead hunter first. then do that with the shadow keeper.
1. it takes a while to build up a mages power.
2. the mage that is by itself would have a hard time not getting it's spell interupted in lots of battles.
3. saving throws can ruin a mage's spells
4. spells can backfire on you
5. some enemies have so much magic resistance that a mage can't touch them with magic.
6. most summons are weak in BG2.
7. fightertype classes can get through the game very easily with the right tools, there are lots of magical stuff that they can use, and the green scrolls can be used by them which will let them have resistances to some powerful enemies or enemies with deadly conditions. like protection from undead to stop level drain (it consumes scrolls until you get the mace of distruption +2 if you can use it but it works).
8. fighters are very hard to kill, and with no one to share your magical stuff with your resistances will be very hard to break through, while the mage's can hardly wear anything that will help their defenses out, they just have magical spells to help them and spells can wear off.
9. for fighting wizards with spell protections on unless your really rushing with your fighter or there's too many powerful fighters (for your level) guarding the mages your fighter should be able to last long enough to defeat the mage. also some weapons can do a little damage through mage's spell's to protect them, this may be a little bit of damage but it still interrupts their spell
for beating the final TOB boss I've only been able to beat her with the flair of ages +5, my monk and swashbuckler couldn't do it from that.
that is why that it's MUCH easier with a fightertype class, right now I'm soloing with a Stalker.
Remember, being Evil in Baldur's Gate 2 is VERY fun...

Simple solution if you want to solo a spellcaster: Dual class from fighter kit of your choice at medium (15) level. You can easily rake in enough XP to be back in business with your fighter class before you go to the asylum. The biggest problem is probably to get out of the first dungeon.
With the Dungeon-Be-Gone mod, this problem is now a thing of the past.
In the answere below I'm using a sorcerer as a mage
How long? Until you leave irenicu's dungeons? That's about when you get sunfire and then you rock the place
Hello Mirror image, stoneskin, 100 more protection spells
I wonder why there are spells without saving throwns, hmmm
And just how often are you in a wild magic zone?
what about using summons?
Ever heard of what a planetar is? Or an Fire elemental? Mayeb you want a nishruu? andlessly many
I'm sure there are some "tools" for mages as well. Vecna, staff of Magi etc...
By the time they wear off the enemies are uslually dead or close to, bless god for contingencies as well.
Well this is easy to do with a mage
I'll let you know if I manage to kill the boss with the sorc I'm currently doing...So far I'm not having any trouble at all with the game and I'm breezing through the underdark.
