Rugby positioning.

Post by Craig »

I play rugby, and I think it's great, problem is I've been put in the second row :( .

I've played front row, the last two years, and now I've been shoved into the second row, my teacher says that I'm growing up but not bulking out enough, he said I would do bad against a bulky kid.

Now I have daniel, one of my friends, he says he weighs 12 stone, I was prop against him, and I did fine, I think our pack almost won that.

Now I'm 5'8"(1.7 metres) and 134 pounds(60 killos), Where do you think I should go?

While I can't say I know too much about rugby, I would advise you to take your spot in the 2nd row, and continually show the teacher that your size in not an indication of your ability. Start manhandling people. Be determined, and work harder than your teammates.

I don't know if that helps, but if you constantly prove you belong in the front row, your teacher will have to put you there.

Good luck.

Make 'em bleed.
Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.

Hey Craig, a subject that I can treatise on! First off, your age group is a definite motivating factor. Your what 15/16 years old? 5'8" is to be honest short for the engine room. I'm 6'3" and that is just enough really. Weight isn't a factor anymore, look at Phil Greening, a fabulous rugby player, who used to weigh a massive amount. He lost it, trimmed up and became fitter yet he still played hooker.

I weigh about 14 and half stones so I am quite big and I enjoy playing in the 2nd row, it is good fun and the bloke to my right is a good jumper, I'm the better scrummer but we both do a lot of work, our pack is quite light this year so we are weakened but just because you are being put in a position that you might not like doesn't mean it's wrong. I mean I've been played on the wing and as a centre before! Just play the 2nd row see how you enjoy it and find out if you want to do some more. Have you played a game yet? If you haven't, wait until you do and find out then.

Remember one thing about the front row, they're the uglies and are called muties for a reason! The 2nds get all the fun...

I'm 13, and 4th tallest in my class. I've played 2 practice matches in training and one in class, I was prop in all, It was good fun.

I know size isn't all, I think one of my friends who is 4'11" something (quite short) took down the tallest in our year, But I have size and the ability to play prop. I know that becuase I've done it this year. :(

McBane has some good advise but

"take your spot in the 2nd row, and continually show the teacher that your size in not an indication of your ability. Start manhandling people. Be determined, and work harder than your teammates"

Is no indication of which row I go in.

Nippy what do you say now?Oh and whats treatise?

I say, play some second row, learn more about the position, but ask your coach to think about you as a front row primarily. Show him that you can play both positions and make yourself look good.

To treatise is to talk and write lots on a subject.
