Modrons Maze. Goodies, Magic Items, and Coin Bags

Post by ETAKO TUMANO »

Love this game. Played it when it originally came out, but quickly and sloppily. Now I'm trying to play it right, garnering as many xp's as possible. Still, reading various posts has made me come to realize that there's far more story to the game than I'd originally thought. Hell, I thought level 10 is the max for any character. Now I read of people with characters at 20 or more. Whoa! Long way to go.

Can anyone tell me the function of the goodies, magic items, and bags of coins you frequently encounter in the Modron's Maze? At first I picked them up, thinking they'd have some value on the open market. But then I discovered that none of my usual retailers (Mebbeth, Quint, the store owners in both marketplaces) were buying them.

They must be of some value, but I haven't yet found this out. Are they tied to one of TNO's character traits?

The game's relatively old, so I'm hoping the answer is obvious to someone.

Most of the items found in the Modron Maze are a joke created by BIS, they were an ironic stab at the formulaic dungeon hack of old (or new depending on your opinion of NwN) You know when you would wander around a dungeon for ages getting little trinkets here and there.

There are a few items that can be picked up, like the bolts that are for Nordom but other than that it is mostly just tat.

I hope that answers your question.

"A Magic Item!" and "A Goody!" are worthless.

My first time through the game I got to level 30 Fighter with a full party. When I soloed I got to 45 Mage.

Mr. Sleep and Platter,

Thanks a lot for that valuable info. Now I can pass up that nonsense with a clear mind. I usually hate to leave even the most innocuous item laying around. Too often in the course of reading a walkthrough I come across a direction like: If you have a goodie in your possession and if you have a CHA of 14 you will get 30, 000 xp's at that point. Usually I come across something like that and kick myself.

Jeez, levels 26 to 45. How'd you guys ever do it? I see I'll be spending a lot of time in Undersigil.

Well i have no idea how how Platter managed to get to level 45...I can't even see how there is that much XP in the game without using the pre-patch Ravel bug or maybe going through the Modron Maze and Undersigil about 60 times. How exactly did you do it Platter? :) The biggest XP grab for me was the fiend from Mordors(i think) box, although i found it funny that when one releases him in Sigil he is a little crappy creature but when he is expelled out of Sigil he is transformed into a very scary Greater Glabrezu(sp?) :D

It was a solo game and I set Wisdom as high as possible ASAP.
Including item bonuses I had 451hp!
I had 13139411 exp in the Mage class.

It was 30 only after I used the Bronze Sphere (up from 20).
