The secret life of your partner (topic related spam, plz)

Post by C Elegans »

Have you ever learned that your partner (or parents/siblings or any people you live together with) is doing the most shocking stuff when you are away? I am not referring to cheating here, I am talking about those secret little hobbies or activities that your partner thought was too shameful to let you know initially.

My hubby just revealed that when I'm away, he sometimes goes to cafes and read interior decoration and fashion magazines! I am shocked! I think I would prefer if he had an affair.... ;)

Can't say that I have, @CE. Our respective hobbies are so time-consuming and apparent that we couldn't manage to fit secret ones into our respective schedules.

Why does he read fashion and interior decoration magazines? And why only at a cafe? These are interesting questions that deserve an answer. :)

I had a roommate in college who subscribed to Playboy and he used to disappear into the bathroom with them on a fairly regular basis (he claimed due to his high-fiber diet). It turns out that he was actually reading the magazine . . . and he's not gay! Right after I found out, I was horrified! What self-respecting guy can get past the pictures of naked boobies to the text? So in the interest of finding out what the big deal was, I read the magazine. While the articles are still no reason to subscribe to Playboy on their own, they're not bad and actually provide a reasonably plausible excuse to subscribe . . . of course, it helps that pictures of naked women are interspersed among the text.

There are several trendy cafes in the area were we live, and those cafes have lots of that kind of magazines, thats why he only reads them at cafes. He is, thankfully, not depraved enough to buy them. Why he reads them at all, that is totally beyond me....

I don't know, @CE. You might want to suggest alternative means of amusement if he starts dressing for dinner in a gold lamee wrap.

If he does, make sure to take a photo! I just have to see that...

Oh, I wouldn't mind that (except he wouldn't look very good in it with his hairy legs and chest), one of my ex is actually a crossdresser, although he took up that practise after he and I split up. What worries me is: what goes on in the mind of a person, who without being a designer or something, enjoys reading about interior design and fashion?

Maybe he's been watching too much Home & Garden TV or Changing Rooms on the BBC. If you get either HGTV or the DIY (Do It Yourself) Network, you might want to have your cable or satellite provider block those channels until he reverts back to his normal behaviour.

Of course I asked him (when I had recovered), but his answer was unintelligable: "I think it is interesting, it gives me ideas." Obviously, I asked what kind of ideas? and he said ideas for things he may want to build in the future. This might not sound so irrational since we have discussed getting another flat, one that is not recently restorated like this one, but one where he can do some restoration work himself. However, we haven't even started looking for another flat yet, and it will probably take years to find what we are after since that type of flats in the inner city are extremely popular.

@HLD: Good suggestion, I'll check what channels we have.

LMAO! CE! :D

Admittedly I never ask my hubby what he does in his own time, though I am quite sure I do not want to see those stag night photos I have heard so much about  :D

It was not even his stag night, but it appears my hubby is sillier than he lets on. Though he blames the alcohol, and that he does not recall the event :D

@CE, you have my sincerest condolences. ;)

I think I'm the one with the weird hobies - my better half doesn't know what I get up to.

@Ysh: What is a stag night, what are they doing?

@Grunt: Thank you, I was devastated when he told me. We were having coffee at one of those cafes, when somebody rang and I went outside because of the load music they played. When I came back in, I noticed he was reading a glossy magazine and a closer look revealed pictures of Italian-style sofas and minimalistic bedrooms  That's when I confronted him, and he admitted to reading those awful magazines
