your first rpg game

Post by wiwimu »

i can still remember my first RPG game...it was on the first sega i've ever had and the name of the game was
Land stalker (i think i still love the game)
kinda miss the game (shouldn't have given the console away).....
but i think the first console i have ever used is the nitendo...
and i remembered that i used to play those jumping games with 101 games in a cartriage...hihi
i kinda miss those times when i had to yank the cartriage from the nitendo...

hmmmm first games. :p

My first RPG had to have been Might and Magic III. It was a classic and because of such RPG's I got into the better stuff like the later Might and Magics along witht the Baldurs Gate Series and Morrowind.

BTW-Welcome to SYM wiwimu. Good to see you in a different place other than the Morrowind section. :)

I wasn't interested in rpg's in my early youth (boy that has changed now :D ) so I would guess it was Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

@Wiwimu, hi. Welcome to SYM, where the madness without draws upon the madness within. ;) Be sure you post a little thread telling us a bit about yourself. :)

My first CRPG? Ultima I. It opened up a world of possibilities that went beyond word processing and databases. :D

Good idea, welcome here Wiwimu :)

Surprisingly perhaps, I've never been interested in RPG:ing and not very interested in computer games either. First RPG I played was probably Pool of Radiance by SSI, back in 1990 or so.

My first CRPG was Solstice on the NES. I never would have gotten far in it without cheats and a map.

I bought my first PC when I was about 19, with the sole intention of using it for writing all the essays for my exams to get grades to enter uni. I didn't even know computer games existed. Later, I met this guy who became my first husband, and when we moved together he convinced me to play games he hadn't managed to finish. Pool of radiance was the first, the Eye of the beholder, a very odd French game called Omnicron...he was so annoyed when I solved them :D

I am obviously showing my age when I say that you all are heretics.

[soapbox mode on]If the title of this thread is "your first rpg game", no true role-player would ever consider a computer game a true RPG. Real role-playing games are conducted between living human beings with a DungeonMaster/GameMaster/Narrator/Storyteller/Referee around a table covered with penicillin-laden pizza, empty 2-liters of Mountain Dew, mounds of charactersheets & maps, dice and stacks of rule books with broken bindery, worn-out pages and writing in the margins. They are not conducted on a computer, even with an extensive and well-executed multi-player aspect. The beauty of a role-playing game is the interaction between humans pretending to be someone or something that they can't possibly be in real life. Limited only by their own imaginations, not the programming and technical support of a bunch of computer geeks, role-players forge their own adventures and unique memories, not common stories available to anyone willing to plop down $50 at a software retailer. Real role-playing doesn't come off of a CD or out of a console catridge, it's borne in the minds and limitless possibilities of its players.[/soapbox mode off]

My first role-playing game was (of course) Basic Dungeons & Dragons, which came in a red box and was accompanied by six blue dice and a crayon.

Well I played Might and Magic III LONG before I played Dungeons and Dragons. I hardly have ever played D&D, anyway.

Okay, I'll admit I fall into the same category. Still have the old D&D first edition books, packed away somewhere. But they don't want to hear how we rolled six-sided boulders, HLD, or scratched out attributes on the sides of prehistoric caves! Let's keep this modern. ;)

DnD basic way back in about 1979 would be my first RPG.

ON the computer, i guess it would have to be wizardry I on those old little cute macintoshes or the original Zelda, I can't remember which came first.

Diablo 1 (but that doesn't really count) Aside from that, it's Baldur's Gate 2. It introduced me to the world of IE games and RPGs in general and I am hooked.

My first CRPG would have been Pool of Radiance from the gold box games.

As for PnP RPG's, I've played basically every game ever produced (except ADnD 3E, but just bought the PHB). The first one would be... *thinks really hard*... Dragon Warriors!!!
