Frustrated early on

Post by baudib »

I just bought NWN and I'm getting a little annoyed. First, I miss not being able to have 4 or 5 or 6 people in the party. Secondly, not being able to equip or control the henchman is really irritating. They never do what you want them to do in combat. The gnomish sorceror keeps casting protection spells on me that are useless/redundant.

Anyway, I just started chapter 2. I'm at level 5, and it seems I should have leveled up a few more times before advancing to this chapter. Also, I took Tomi to the ritual chamber, so does this mean I'm stuck with him for a while?

Join the club , that has been the main annoyance of the NWN players. also no, all of the henchmen will follow you to the begging of chapter 2(when you first start).

It's worth noting that NWN was truly meant to be strongest in the multiplayer game. That is where it's strength lies, although I have found the single player game to be fun, as well. For me, micromanaging your henchman is a bit too unrealistic - he should have a mind of his own, and merely be your ally, not your puppet, IMO. Previous D&D PC games were mainly geared towards a single-player experience. However, NWN has something no other PC game has had before: the DM client! :D A real live person can control the game you're playing. That is way too cool.

Personally I think that is a great feature. It makes the game more realistic and focused, and makes each character their own person instead of just another guy in the party that you have full control over. It enhances roleplay in my opinion. Furtharmore, didn't you figure out before you bought the game that it would be like that? It is everywhere

Just to let you know. You haven't started chapter 2 yet if you are in the ritual chamber. You are in the ending part of chapter 1. Yeah, I think you should be higher than level 5 as I am level 6 and just half way through chapter 1.

I was level 9 when I reached chapter 2, but that is playing with no henchmen. I got so pissed off with the henchmen that I created monk/rogue and played solo. It's not at all hard except for the first level or two. What I did was kill all the zombies and escaped prisoners on the streets before venturing into the tombs or prison. That way I was tough enough to handle the more difficult 'boss' mobs inside.

I think the single player game is WAY more fun with no henchmen. I suppose a wizard or sorcerer would have a harder time, but I'm sure it's possible.

Spell caster can solo well if you use summons. Its actually kind of fun. Just to make things easier to start I took two levels of barbarian before leveling up my sorcerer. That way he can fight - dual wielding - with some degree of effectiveness (and also gets some needed hit points in the beginning). I use the Pixie familiar for traps and summons for fodder.
