Does anyone know if there is an Msconfig type program in win2000.
Thanks in advance.

I came across this question before, here was the answer
When you click Start, Run and type msconfig and press Enter in Windows 98 or Me, this starts the System Configuration Utility. Although Windows XP has a souped up version, there's no equivalent in Windows 2000 or NT 4.0. For the benefit of others, the utility's Startup tab displays all of the programs that start when Windows starts and lets you disable any of them. This display includes programs that appear in the System Tray (rebadged Status Area in Windows 2000 and Notification Area in Windows XP) at the right end of the Taskbar.
To get a similar GUI utility for Windows 2000/NT 4.0, download Startup Control Panel from http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml. This freeware utility gives GUI control of both Startup menus as well as the four registry keys most likely to hold startup programs. However, sometimes startup programs are hidden away where Startup Control Panel can't find them.
You can view a list of all the programs that start when Windows 2000 starts by clicking Star,t Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management , System Information, Software Environment , Startup Programs. The Software Environment branch shows all the programs that are loaded into RAM, and the Startup Programs folder shows those non-Windows 2000 programs that were started automatically when Windows started. However, you can't use any of the System Information displays to disable a program, so you have to track them down manually as follows (the same procedure applies for Windows NT 4.0):
1. This is a long shot but easy to check. Open Win.ini and System.ini in Notepad and delete entries preceded by run= or load=. The two INI files are in the folder where your Windows 2000 or NT 4.0 files are installed, often C:\WINNT.
2. Click Start Run, type regedit and press Enter. The following keys contain programs that start when Windows starts. To prevent a program from starting, delete its entry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVerson\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Load
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\<SID>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\<SID>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
where <SID> represents the security identifier for a user profile. You have to log off and log on again for changes in any of these keys to take effect.
