Kelsey, new NPC/Romance, released!
Kelsey, new NPC/Romance, released!
I am unbelievably pleased to announce the immediate availability of
Kelsey, the new male human sorcerer NPC/romance add-on for Baldur's Gate 2.
Kelsey brings you...
Thousands of new lines!
Nearly 200 new voice clips!
Dozens of new NPC banters!
Hair-raising combat with all-new enemies!
Romance!
New magical items both powerful and bizarre!
Sorcery!
Mirror sites and latest updates will always be available at:
http://www.forgottenwars.net/kelsey/
Currently, Kelsey is available from:
http://3ddownloads.com/?file_id=159457
http://kelseymod.multimania.com
http://www.lordofgames.com/kelsey.html
The support forum for Kelsey is at
http://forums.db-forge.com/forgottenwars/
This, Baldur's Gate 2 fans, is Kelsey.
Quick notes:
Kelsey V1.0.0 is compatible with both SOA and TOB installations, but currently he only has "content" (quests, banter, romance dialogue, etc.) within the boundaries of SOA. He will transition to TOB when you defeat Irenicus.
A TOB content patch should be available within a few weeks.
You do not need to start a new game in order to take advantage of Kelsey if you do not wish to do so.
You can find Kelsey in the Government district of Athkatla. He is standing near the Firecam Estate (at roughly 2000x2000, in the SW region of the map) and he will approach you and initiate dialogue.
Kelsey adds over two dozen new inter-party banters to the game, and
interacts with dozens of "scenery NPCs" and enemies, as well.
Kelsey is a romance-enabled NPC, which means he will initiate a romance
with a female PC who is human, elven, half-elven, or halfling. While we
think the romance is an important part of Kelsey’s character, he is still a
valuable and talkative addition to a party with a male PC, or a female PC
who simply doesn’t think Kelsey is her type.
Kelsey is compatible with some of the more interesting mods out there,
such as Solaufein. It is packaged as a self-extracting installer, and
you do not need any extra tools to add Kelsey to your game.
Kelsey is the product of nearly eight months of hard work, primarily a
collaboration between Jesse Meyers (Ghreyfain) and myself, but it would
not have been possible without the support and aid of many others. On
behalf of all of them, we hope you enjoy.

Well, I've visited their site, and it seems the mod is pretty well done.
Damn, probably it's the best of the mods around, as it has ORIGINAL pics and sounds,
, and the pic has the quality of the in-game pics.
The main reason why I keep playing this game is to try new characters, so surely I'll grab this one, though maybe I could wait till the ToB lines are done as well...

Have to say, give me more character interaction anyday. That (and the high level of non-linearity in the early game chapters) are much of what gave BG2 it's unique flavor--well, that, and of course, the distinctiveness with which it was done.
I'll definitely have to check this out.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Yeah, I agree. Eight months in the development stages. Hmm...
There was a lot of learning that went on. When we started developing Kelsey, there were no full NPC mods available for BG2. Westley Weimer had a crude early version of a joinable Solaufein out, and was just getting started on what is now WeiDU. We didn't pay much attention to his efforts, though, which cost us a lot of time...we didn't switch to using WeiDU until late Jan/early Feb.

Fine effort and what must surely be a labour of love. As for WeiDu, better late than never!Originally posted by jcompton

I have yet to come across a single typo and other problems that may have plagued the release of other mods. Still in the early stages of the quest (and romance), but so far so good.

Not sure about everyone else, but npc add ons are what has keept the game alive for me ( I was poking about that Kelsey sight a few says ago just thinkin to myself when it would come out)
I found the solufein and tashia mods to be chock full of good stuff.. amusing dialogues and such count me in on this new npc...
Im not sure if this is on topic.. but I heard somewhere there is an add on/ mod / whatever / probably doesnt exist that allows all player made pc's in a multiplayer game to be considered protagonist ie, run simultanous romances wth different chars ect ect has anyone ever heard of this? I HATE not being able to have a familiar without making my head man a girly mage

A TOB content patch should be available within a few weeks.
So I gather that if we download the present version, it is a fairly simple matter of upgrading it with the coming patch?

Does this work with SoA/TDD installed?
The NPC's added to TDD were good but they lacked extended interaction with their surroundings and other NPC's. However, it did include new variations to current maps, new quests and maps so who's complaining.
It sounds like the addition of Kelsey is well integrated into the game.
I realize that kelsey might not have much to say in TDD areas but is he at least compatable with such a setup.
thanks

Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.
That's our plan, yes. So there's no reason to wait to start playing. Kelsey even properly transitions to TOB after you finish SOA, although he doesn't have anything interesting to say in TOB yet.Originally posted by dragon wench

Offhand, I can't think of anything Kelsey would do that would interfere with TDD, but I am not an expert on what TDD changed and we did not test with TDD.Originally posted by Ned Flanders

Some people did report difficulty with Solaufein in a TDD environment, but Solaufein does a few different things than we do, and it's not clear whose fault it would be anyway.

@gnomethingy: hey, girly mages as main PC rock!!!!
(kensai/mages?)
Absolutely! Give them LOW ST and CON, end enjoy
the fun, as they grow up in power nonetheless!
I have also a male Paladin, he's boooooooooooring....
Anyway, I spent some time in jcompton's site.
I confirm my first impression, they have many projects
and ideas running, including a new female NPC.
And the work seems very professional!
I think they really deserve some support....

bah! Kensai mage.... has anyone read that joke about the different kinds of roleplayers?? You should read this, you may find the type that fits you and its damn funny
The Real Man
The tough macho type who walks up to the attacking dragon and orders it to leave before he gets hurt.
The Real Roleplayer
The intelligent cunning guy who tricks the constable into letting you all out of prison.
The Loonie
The guy who will do anything for a cheap laugh, including casting a fireball at ground zero.
The Munchkin
Need we say more?
REAL MEN:
Real Men: think they're brothers in arms.
Real Roleplayers hide behind them.
Loonies harass them with stupid suggestions.
Munchkins say ``I'm a Real Man, too!''
REAL ROLEPLAYERS:
Real Men: protect them, on the off chance they may come up with something useful.
Real Roleplayers sigh with relief to know they're not alone, and then get their characters involved in love affairs and death feuds.
Loonies harass them with stupid suggestions.
Munchkins say ``I'm a Real Roleplayer, too!''
LOONIES:
Real Men: ignore them.
Real Roleplayers sometimes harass them back by taking a stupid suggestion and making it work.
Loonies declare a pie fight at 20 paces . . . and cheat.
Munchkins try to imitate the jokes, and fall flat.
MUNCHKINS:
Real Men: attack them on sight.
Real Roleplayers trick them into being cannon fodder.
Loonies make reasonable-sounding suggestions that will get the Munchkin killed in an amusing way.
Munchkins query, ``What's a Munchkin?''
This just keeps going on and on and on.. look at the sight for one hell of a larf http://home.mira.net/~tosh/humour/realmen.htm

hey, bumping is not allowed!!!
I really want to play it, but I'll have to wait till my next run
(oh yes, there will be another, and another and...
),
'cause for now I have taken Tashia (for her the ToB part is already
completed, and I wanted a female romance!
)
Give us some feedback as you play, I keep monitoring their site as
they have many interesting projects!!!

From what i have seen on the TDD website, This mod should work.
The Tashia mod will work according to the creator once TDD is TOB compatible.
To add it shouldn't have problems with either Sigwalds munch mod or Deanos freedoms reign theoritically.
As for Grievers Storm of Darkness an addon mod for TDD i have no clue.
But it would be nice if any new mods would be made compatible with TDD, as it seems to be a major hit.

*bump*
Hey, people, I was wondering, instead of bumping this up every now and then, how about putting it as one of the links in The BG Reference Crossroads (No Spam) above?
Then it can be saved for posterity instead of resuscitating this thread every now and then.
Cheers.
EDIT: JCompton, you could PM Craig or Fable to ask them if you could add your mod link to Craig's sticky.

Well, there's a Kelsey plug in Quitch's long post in that sticky thread, so that's probably sufficient, right?
Besides, a few extra reminders for people never hurt.
