reducing cast speed

Post by Thrar »

how many items exist that decrease spell initiative, and how much can u get on one char?
i only know about vecna and amulet of power, for a total of -5, very nice with aerie, as it works for cleric spells as well. but r there rings, cloaks or anything else to decrease it further?

casting spells instantly is just too cool :D

Only "Robe of Vecna", Amulet of Power", and Drow Elven Chain +5.
No other items exist.

thrar, the best items in the game for mages is robe of vecna and amulet of power. the casting speed improvement is negliable for amulet, but the vocalize and level drain protect is just too good to pass up.

now one other item does exist,

drow elven chain +5, which does improve casting speed by +1, but this is best saved for fighter mages and the robe of good, evil and neutral archmagi are BETTER, imho, since they also add to your saves.

this is teh description in sk for Daer'Ragh's Aura Cleaning, which is a componet for increased acuity.

"The use of magic causes the collection of magical residue around the caster, which prevents even the most skilled of casters from casting spells in quick succession.
Daer'Ragh's Aura Cleaning removes this residue as the next spell begins, allowing for a greatly increased rate of spellcasting."

this is why my mages all have one greater acuity mem at all times, for emergency and 3 times a week mandatory aura cleaning. after casting greater acuity, rest and rememorize spell, and your mage for the next few encounters, spells will go out really fast.

the nice thing is ist also improves greatly trigger speed for chain contingency.

no, you wont get greater acuity all times, but you will get better "quick draw" for a short time. also, have you played with spells that completly bypass acuity? chain contingency and contingency will bypass acuity, they are not actually spells, but cast with ZERO time, allowing for my 7 spells per round exploit...

sight enemy, pause, cast chain contingency, load up, and wile still paused cast contingency, load up, and unload spell trigger previously setup.
They call me Darth...

ty ;)

so for a second mage in party (immie) u would advise getting g/n/e archmagi robe?

as for its own, i agree that vocalize and neg plane protection r more important on amulet of power, but in combination with vecna i find the -1 making a bigger difference as well, cuz many important spells have casting speed of 5 (breach, the minor healings, dispel magic...), and those r uninterruptible then.
gotta play around with triggers, but aerie is just lvl 14/13 so far. is that true she will hardly ever have lvl 9/10 mage spells as the first lvl 9 she gets should b at charlevel 18 with 3 million XP (6 million in total)?

Immie is neutral good (i think) so she can only wear robe of good archmagi. But all those robes is the same accually. But yes, let immie wear the R/o/G/A
