I have FINALLY downloaded and installed all the patches available (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4) and have been happily playing POR for the last four hours....until I reached a mega fight in the catacombs, with dreadful creatures around a fountain. I almost had them whipped when the game crashed back to my desktop. I reloaded and tried again (wasn't doing so well the second go 'round) and the game crashed again. HELP. Can anyone help me?
I am pretty computer illiterate, so if you ask me what my system is, and what devices, graphics, sound cards, etc. I have, I may have to dig around a bit to find it. My system said everything is compatible when I installed the game, I defragged the hard drive (I'm learning) and crossed my fingers.
Thanks for any help you can give me. Just speak to me like you would a little child, please.
post-patch crashing HELP
I believe the game crashes because of the heavy spell effects and large number or creatures in this battle and it might be a problem with DirectX drivers. Maybe updating your directX drivers will fix the problem. Can you tell me what version of DirectX do you have installed, if you are not sure you can get the latest drivers from here.

I have the 32MB NVidia RIVA TNT2 M64 Graphics accelerator. Now what that means, or what that is, I haven't a clue. Like I said, I am a computer language moron, but I do LOVE to play these games - they are my sanctuary from the 156 sixth graders I deal with daily. This system is a year old, has an athlon processor, tons of memory, works fast and has never given me a problem until I bought POR. I read some of the other posts and turned some things off. I still haven't gotten finished with that battle without a crash. Maybe I need to install the DirectX that the 1st disc offered me?
Thank you so very very much for your time and your assiatance.

As i have said to my previous reply the problem might be with the DirectX Drivers, either install Directx from the disc or get them from the link i gave you before. Any version beyong 8.0 will work fine i believe. I hope this will fix your problem.Originally posted by DeeDee
