The Dumbest Thing I've Ever Seen
Ok, so this in my one SYM post for the next four months.
I was at the movies with my brother tonight, and the previews left me completely disgusted. My eyes held witness to a preview of a movie that should never have been conceived in the dark mind of whoever writes such things.
Everyone remember Jason Vorhees, the psychopathic, hockey-mask wearing, mass murderer who frequented the 80s horror scene in the series Friday the 13th? Well that's right. He's not dead. He's apparently not in hell, where the horrible last movie (it was really supposed to be the last) left him.
No my friends, HE'S IN SPACE!!! That's right. Jason X, to be released in April I believe, is set in space, where he is reigning terror on some advanced futuristic station. When I saw the preview, I couldn't help myself. I yelled "GAY!" outloud for the entire theater to hear. My brother proceeded to burst into laughter, and I soon followed him, as the preview was quite stupid.
Now, by "gay" I mean stupid, so hopefully no one takes offense at my word choice. But you've got to appreciate the circumstances. How could I not have cried out my testament to the complete stupidity of this movie concept? I mean, he terrorizes Crystal Lake, dies in Manhattan (?!), somehow ends up back at Crystal Lake where his soul proceeds to jump from body to body, and now he's made it to space!!???
What were they thinking? At least the last movie didn't make it to the theaters, or I don't think it did. They could have at least made a similar concession this time around.
I feel dumber just having seen the preview. Hopefully you will all be more prepared for it than I was.

I appreciate the thought Maharlika, but last time I ventured into the diabolical realm of SYM, it was quite unnatural for the typical post to stay on topic past five replies. Have things changed so much? I wouldn't believe it if you said it was true.

Anyone ever seen Leprechaun IV - Leprechaun in Space?
At least that series learned how much it sucked after the first one and became a humorous B-Movie parody of itself.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I would say pretty much the same about ALL the sequels to "HIGHLANDER" .Originally posted by average joe

The first film RULES big time, the follow-up movies are just plainly BAD.

Sorry Beldin,
I'd have to disagree. Not about the sequels sucking, cuz they did. Big time!! But the original was pretty far-fetched in itself. Acting was pathetic, and the action wasn't that great. The story could've been cool, but they didn't follow up enough on anything. It was very very shallow. The love story was, of course, corny.
A friend of mine saw Endgame, the finale of the series, and was singing praises to the sky, so we decided to watch the series from start to finish. The first one left both of us disappointed. We quit watching the second 15 minutes into it. The guy at the movie store let me rent part 2 for free. I think it was because he realized how horrible it was, and felt as if he was giving away a piece of his humanity if he charged me.
Needless to say, I'm not interested in seeing Endgame.

Kay I saw Leprechaun in Space, pretty funny movie, rescuing space princesses, shrinking rays, and the last part with the giant middle finger was the funniest.
I don't know I kind of miss Jason, he always had a special place in my heart, the part that so enjoys B class movies, I would like to see him again slashing horny teenagers, and this in space bit is a new twist.
Some other B movies that are cool, Evil Dead Series, includes Army of Darkness, They live(elegant commentary on the capitalist system, but in a funny way), Orgasmo(funniest B movie I have ever seen, can't find it at Blockbuster unfortunately, which really sucks), Night of the Demons 1, 2, and 3, good B class movie.
In any case, I am betting they bring back Freddy next, then Chucky(wait a minute they already did), then who next?

I care not for endings or beginnings, but for the eternal and infinite spaces of the universe, and for the endless exploration of eternity, and mysteries which I will find plumbing the infinite depths.

Well, while you're bringing up "horror" series that you miss, it is my personal opinion that the Halloween series was always a step above the rest, and part 8 is in the works. I think that all the movies were pretty well connected (true, Halloween 3 was the oddball of the series). The acting was decent for the horror genre. And the theme song will always be a classic.
I wouldn't say Michael Myers will ever have a place in my heart, but I will see the next movie in the series. That mask of his is just plain freaky.
However, after some soul-searching due to my distate for the Friday the 13th series and it's newest installment, I must admit that Jason was quite terrifying. I remember in high school, even through my Junior year, once a month without fail, I would have a night filled with the most intense nightmares I've ever experienced. And Jason was always the center figure. So I will admit that Friday the 13th definitely has it's place as an icon for the horror industry. Thank goodness those nightmares went away. No matter how childish it might be, I always woke up scared.

Re: Re: The Dumbest Thing I've Ever Seen

The Highlander series suffers from some of the worst continuity problems of any series I’ve ever seen. I honestly liked the first one. Highlander II is so far off the map that it’s not even considered canon, Highlander III has to do some weird gymnastics to get its plot to fit, and the Highlander TV show is basically a follow up of the first movie, except that it omits the salient facts that all the other Immortals are dead in the end and Connor has won the prize (and I won’t even touch that animated series they made). It also doesn’t help that the TV show had wildly erratic quality control (sometimes it was great, but often it just sucked), and the spin-off Highlander: The Raven was short lived. It seems every Highlander spin-off exists in an alternate reality, where events are vaguely similar, but divergent in many pertinent spots. Endgame is basically a follow-up of the Highlander TV show and is the best of the sequels (Adrian Paul has a great fight scene that almost makes it worthwhile by it’s own merits). Strange how they let they're own series spin out of control like it has though.Originally posted by Beldin
