paych i.4 & trouble starting the game
A new patch- except when dowloaded it will install as the data is corrupt.....
Can anyone help with my technical problem? I cannot get the game to start on a reliable basis. On clicking the icon the screen goes black & stays black. Occasionally if I remove the disc, waut for the error message & try again it will run- so far when this happens I have no problems. I have an up to date system with loads of RAM & a Geforce 3 card. I did notice someone mentiioning that the fault may be my Toshiba DVD drive- but this has no specific drivers installed nor can I find any at the Toshiba site. I've done the usual things like having nothing running in the background, changing the display to 16bit etc. but no luck. HELP!

I have moved your post in a new thread since the thread you replied to was more of an informative type. As a new thread members will be able to see a title for your question.
As for your question did the game installed properly? From what i can guess the installation might caused some problems. Patch v1.1 is an installer patch that fixes some errors reported during installation you might want to try it out.

a possible fix for your problem
Stefanher, here is how to fix your patch problem. I had the same one myself. Your patch isnt corrupt, what you need to do is either extract the d/l file into your pool of radiance directory and then access it from there; Or to move the file from where its at now into that directory.
On my computer I moved it into C:\Program Files\SSI\Pool of Radiance\data after i had unzipped it into C:\My Documents\My Pictures. This should fix your problem. If you have troubles post again and I'll try to help you some more.
As for your other problem, you've got me.

patch i.4 & starting
Great! Moving the data to my main file caused the computer to crash....
On a more serious point mine is not the only compaint on this forum about actually geyying the game to run. We don't buy books with pages missing or cars with no engine. Why are game developers with their sidekicks the computer magazines who NEVER tell the public the truth allowed to get away with it?
Sadly I've enjoyed what I've been able to play of this game but enough is enough. I shall not touch another UbiSoft game until it is out on budget at which time hopefully the problems will be fixed. POR is the third of four recently released games that I can neither install properly or run- the others for the record are Technomage & Arcanum. In all cases I have had little or no help from the companies & if we the gaming fraternity stand up & say nothing we'll soon have no games that ever play properly. Interesting that this arely happens to Playstation products.
