Interplay press release - BG's Future?

I just don't know. I know Black Isle is competent (barring any interference from Titus), but I didn't like Icewind Dale nearly as much as Baldur's Gate. There's no way they'd let Bioware become involved with the next BG game, so I'm left wondering if the series is going to go downhill ...

Awhile ago, Both Black Isle, and Bioware held no interest in making a BG sequel to the SoA. This is because the series, is in all rights, completed. There has been talk, though, of another CRPG implementing a new engine, up to the same quality of story as BG2

Well, I remember hearing before the Bioware/Black Isle problems surfaced that more BG games were possible, yet they would begin a whole new storyline. I certainly don't want to have a DnD game start out w/ lvl 40 gods, anyway.

I just won't agree with Interplay using the BG name (which is inevitable) if they won't make a BG quality and style game.

@Quark: I think you should take Icewind Dale for what it is, a simple on-the-go hack-n-slash quick fill of adrenaline and masculinity. I did not expect any quality role-playing elements and just played it like what it is. I really really enjoyed it. Maybe you were expecting something like BG, well, that's not what IWD intended to be.

I don't really want to see another sequel to BG, since technically BG series is done for, even the Bioware guys stated so. If they make another one, it would seem that they are only doing it to milk the franchise. I don't want to see The Sims-style expansions for BG.

I did enjoy IWD, but I liked BG more.

I don't want another continuation of the Bhaal story-line, but I would like another BG-type game, with or without the BG name. BG is my second favorite RPG series, only behind FF because Squaresoft put out so manu good games.

On a completely different sidenote: I just saw on the Black Isle website that they're currently hiring. Now that angers me. Titus and the higher-ups at Interplay pull their strings, lay off half the TORN (and P:T) team, then go to higher more people while still under financial problems.

I think the next BG game, if it gets made, is going to be very different from the original BG series. For one thing, the story is going to be different, and BS will probably not be using the IE engine. They will probably be moving on to 3D, but considering their inexperience working with 3D engine (as shown on the Torn project), I am a bit doubtful.
