Shade Lord's Pet goes down easy!! *Spoilers :)*

Post by THE JAKER »

I am playing an evil + party - half orc fighter/thief, korgan, edwin, viconia, haerdalis. I did most of the easier quests in Athkatla, but not the unseeing eye or the planar spere or kangaxx, because I didn't want to cheese it so I am saving them for after underdark...I finished off Bodhi's lair and I wanted to do some of the side quests real quick, so directly after finishing the lair (at 4 AM game time!), I left for Umar hills - party is all about 11th level, best weapons are blade of roses and stonefire axe.

I got to Umar, and part of the party was fatiqued, but I thought, oh what the H. I'll go up and start on the temple ruins - I don't like to waste game time and I was doing well so far. So I go up and clear out the land area, and party's still looking good, so I clear out the dungeon - all those skeleton warriors and mummies take their toll, but I manage to get through and kill the shade lord and altar.

At this point, my entire party is fatigued, I have used up all my summoning spells, I have no breachs, malisons or dooms memorized (used up fighting mage vampire) I do NOT have a wand of cloudkill or monster summoning, the two best weapons i have are +3, etc. I do a save, and decide to go take on Thaxsylvania. Why not, if I die I can just load save and rest...

I get my party in place, the only prep I do is a haste spell. Edwin fires one lower resistance to start the fight. I send korgan and Kayza Dio up to swing, and start Haerdalis and Edwin casting magic missiles. Viconia cannot do much so I have her working as a decoy.

Anyway, wing buffets take out my fighters twice, and viconia nearly gets toasted, but uses a potion and survives. About 40 magic missiles hit, some doing damage (edwin had a lot left thank god). Just as the dragon is about to REALLY finish off viccy, Korgan lands one - his axe can't even damage the dragon, but the 2 points elemental damage gets through and kills it!!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! I WIN!!!!!

So anyway, I wanted to tell everyone about it and let you know the party is resting in the Umar inn as we speak :) :) :)

Good on you!!! :) Strange how that shade lord didn´t manage to plant one single blow on one´s party, huh? What was the dragon thinking when it decided to serve him?!!!

I still say snares are a god-send. 15 normal snares can usually take down a dragon, without your party getting hit. But, of course, snares are the weenie way to do it.

Yeah I don't like to use traps, my fighter/thief in this party has 0% in set traps Ha Ha Ha...I'll bring it up once I get the other skills up a bit - it's nice because I don't have to put any points in Pickpocket since Haer d' has that covered, so I have put all points so far into stealth and find traps/pick locks, got those all up high and now starting on detect illusion.

The combination of Korgan and a fighter/thief in combat is great! Korgan stands there bashing away, and then the thief sneaks up and kills stuff from behind.

I can't wait for use any item for Kayza and improved bardsong for Haer d'. (he does get it, right???)

quite simply, use the cleric spell harm. it reduces the recipient to one hit point on contact. the hard part is reducing your thaco to get a hit.(but not with enough cleric buff spells) when i soloed my cleric, i used this trick, then killed it with a larlochs minor drain! ha, very simple, and no cheese.. the wardstone hides you till you strike, so its simple roleplaying. :)
