Im not that new to rpg's but kinda new to Baldurs, I decided to pick up 1 and 2 + addons for it today and I have a question or too for you avid fans =P. I happen to love Necromancer for Diablo 2. I was wondering if the "Conjurer"

a.Has any similarites to the Necromancer in D2
b.What kinds of "thngs" can I summon
c.Diffuculty,Fun rating.
d.is it even worth the trouble...?

Look foward to you opinions =)

P.S. this is for BG 1,
had some forum problems so sorry if this is posted twice. =/

Don't know anything about Diablo - sorry. Conjurer is considered one of the best specialty mages in BG1. He can cast all spells, except those from the divinition school, of which Identify and Detect Invisibility are the only really useful ones. You can do without these two spells, however. A mage gets to summon monsters and Undead.

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

I am playing this game - again! ;) D2 I never finished...it got quite tedious after a while. The BG series is well worth the effort :)

One ethos that i always stick by in BG1 is exploration, it is definately important for one's enjoyment of the game, it is very different from Diablo 1/2, i don't think they are in the same category of games (but that is another issue ;) )

Spend time with it, learn the classes, see which is best for you :) Personally it would be best to go through once as a fighter to learn the ropes, also one other tip, the more party members, the less XP per character.

I played Diablo 2 through Hell/Hell but never played a necro. To extrapolate about the two games from what I know of them, however, I think one big difference is the context. In D2 you are on your own, whereas in BG your Conjurer would be part of a team. The dynamics are significantly different. IMO, BG is a far better game due to the complexity, depth of strategy, and role playing elements. In fact, I went back to D2 after playing SoA to prep for doing the expansion and quit after two hours. I was bored to tears. I never did buy the expansion. :D

Well after playing non-stop last night I would have to agree =). BG is an incredible game, the depth and enjoyment Is so much more then D2 could ever had. (If I had only known =P). I was really blown away when I tried to pick pocket a few people and the "Flaming Fist" came after me =). Thank you for your replys, Im sure I will be playing this one for some time.

I'm just curious to know what class you ended up chosing. And IIRC Necromancers in D2 can wear armor, and are kind of a fighter who can cast Animate Dead. Mages in BG can't wear any armor, but they get access to some pretty cool robes, and if you get good bracers and an amulet/ring of protection you should be able to get a decent AC. And I think I go along with the general concensus that D2 isn't even on the same level as BG.
