A Book Recommendation
I just found out that on old friend of mine, Neal Barrett, Jr. did the novelization of the Dungeons & Dragons Movie. I know that the movie sucked--but the book is good. Neal's a great writer, and very funny-- if you're into D&D books, please check out his book. It's called: Dungeons & Dragons: The Movie. It seems to me that they left all the good parts of the book out of the movie.
For those interested in his original fiction, he just came out with two very weird fantasies--not typical elves and dwarves stuff--one is called the Prophecy Machine and the other is called The Treachery of Kings.

Oh, c'mon now, the movie wasn't that bad. It was better than . . . um . . . Plan 9 From Outer Space and . . .um . . . Bring it On . . . on second thought, it did suck pretty bad.Originally posted by VoodooDali

Vicsun, I certainly agree with your assertion that you are an unpleasant person. ~Chanak

D&D had a couple of bright spots--namely Zoe McLellan and Richard O'Brien--but in terms of sheer badness it was just a little better than Battlefield: Earth. Of course, if they had hired some lead actors . . . with talent . . . it could have been much, much better (Justin Whalin, puh-leeeeeze!).

Seriously, D&D quite a trill to watch and yes like HLD I think it's much better than John Travoltas Battle Field Earth
Too bad The pic distributed along with Final Fantasy here so it's not so popular like Final Fantasy

I liked Final Fantasy more than Dungeons & Dragons because it showed me something that I hadn't seen before: a near-realistic CGI film that was in some parts indistinguishable from live-action moviemaking.
Neither movie was impressive for its plot, script or premise. D&D also gets marks against it because the acting was bad and wasted the talents of Jeremy Irons, Thora Birch and Zoe McLellan. Final Fantasy didn't waste anyone's (voice) talent, they just miscast Peri Gilpin and Steve Buscemi (as soldiers!!).
All of D&D's effects we had seen somewhere else; the dragons were straight out of Dragonheart (they even used the same basic animation and models), the fighting was very much out of Hercules or Xena on a good day and the "magic" effects were laughable.
As a long-time Dungeons & Dragons player and DM, what disappointed me most was that they had so much to work with and came up so short.

I also want to see D&D for myself. I plan on getting it as soon as the DVD comes down in price. If it's so bad, you'd think it wouldn't still be $20.Originally posted by Rob-hin
Nobody did actually... I still want to see it for myself though.

Save yourself $16 and rent if from Blockbuster. Unless the DVD has a lot of extras . . . and I mean like the entire run of the old Dungeons & Dragons animated series on it . . . you'll soon be using it as a $20 coaster.

Oh, I won't be paying $20 for it. I might pay that much for Willow, but there aren't many movies(excluding anime) I would pay that much for. I'll wait for it to get down to about $10 at Sam's or Blockbuster(previously viewed) to get it.Originally posted by HighLordDave

As for the extras, the only thing I can recall for sure that it has is BGII demo, but I don't need that since I have BGII already.
But it's not convenient for me to rent. The nearest rental place is in the next town and so I have a tendancy to return rented stuff 5-6 days late, sometimes later.

If I were gonna get one of my friends to buy it, I'd get them to buy it for me, not for them. Besides, I'll probably get my dad to buy it, rather than pay for it myself.Originally posted by HighLordDave
You could sucker one of your friends into buying it, then "borrow" their DVD for a few days/weeks/ad infinitum.
