Ok, ok, they are necessary to unlock doors, chests, to find and remove traps and so on....... but what about backstabbing?
Sometimes, when thieves are fighting, I can read "Sneak attack" and see a nice amount of damage.
In the RPG a thief uses his "move silently" skill to walk behind the enemy and then backstab it. In PoR there is the "move silently" skill, but I cannot find a way to use it.
The same for "Hide" and "Spot" skills.
Do you have any suggests?
Tnx

Are thieves useful?
I'm not sure about 3E rules, but I don't know if backstab is still in. But they have replaced it with sneak attack. I think that Rogues are definately key characters because of detect/disarm traps to protect your party from the occassional Fireball that's hidden in a chest. But if you're going solo I could see how traveling without it would be beneficial because you could then crash Int(which is only used by Rogues) to boost other important starting stats. Hope that helps.

These skills are build in the character and cannot be used by will. The character just throw a skill check roll each time an enemy is nearby and if he has high spot skill he will see it or not be seen if his can move silently enough and hide. I think these skills somehow work like this. They must have something to do with the speak attacks too ... maybe (for a rogue).
