How to avoid certain death

Post by Ned Flanders »

Sometimes when moving from one location to the next, you are stopped with a random encounter. Sometimes, it is in the form of a grizzly bear who proceeds to hack everyone into tiny bits. I reload. Anyone out there have a more viable solution than just accepting death.

I find the scenario of running into things more powerful than you can handle to be plausible and more realistic. More so, than in the BW/BIS series of games, where the enemies you face are scaled to your level. However, it defeats its' purpose when there is no way to get away from the fight. All it is, is a waste of time. You die, you reload, actually you're punished if you're not one of those types of gamers who saves his/her game religiously.

I could switch the difficulty to easy but i don't want to do that because I fear I'll miss out on certain elements of the game other than combat. Also, this game layout is still very new to me and there could be lots I am missing and tactics I've yet to discover.
Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.

@Ned, the level of the encounter I've found affected by two things: the area you're in, and the overall level of your party. You can effectively avoid very challenging encounters by skirting dangerous areas--at least, for a good while.

You can hack the game so that you won't be able to encounter random encounters.

Death

Death is part of Arcanum. So save often but I suggest a mix of abiltities. Mage with fighter(s). The fighter wades in but the mage can cast both damaging spell and health. Virgil is good for health and so is Raven.

Tom, please read the forum rules, particularly rule #7: "Please don't bump multiple threads unless you have something to genuinely contribute to their contents. Nobody likes seeing hot topics on the front page of a forum shoved back several pages, simply because a member has bumped several "back page" topics for no good reason. Breaking this rule repeatedly will lead to disciplinary action."

This is from the site owner, and he means it. Please don't bump old threads.

You're going to the back of the list of threads, all the way to 2001, and answering questions. They have far less relevance compared to questions on the first two pages. Please, don't "bump" (meaning, push to the front) old threads. Thanks.
