Odd thing

The weirdest thing happend. I defeated Irenicus and went through the whole "you are a hero" thing with the elf queen. Then when she was done jabbering half my party was still in the elven city and the other half was in Tethyr. Now I have to go kill Irenicus
all over again to see if it happens again.

that's a known bug, the most recent patch should have fixed it

No you don't have to kill Irenicus again. Perservere with the game. At some point (quite early on) you will be attacked by a bhaalspawn (sorry name escapes me) then you will be summoned to your pocket plane. Here your party will be reunited.

I had my PC and Edwin in the temple with Elliseme when I was attacked. The rest of my party were helpless in some woodland clearing somewhere...

I quite easily despatch the bhaalspawn watched by hundreds of indifferent elves before being summoned to my pocket plane.
