Hey, so I'm starting a new party in IWD2, and decided to opt for a change of pace. Normally I pick a character who has high charisma, and good dialogue skills for the party leader, like a Bard, Sorcerer or perhaps a Rogue type. This time, however, I'm going with a Dreadmaster.
I have a couple questions though, since I've never played one before. Should I go Dreadmaster x/Fighter 4, to get him that third point in his chosen weapon type? Leaning towards warhammers, as an aside, if anyone has a suggestion regarding weapon type. Basically, I envision him as a pure frontliner badass. No healing duties for him, I'll have a second cleric for that. Is it worth the four levels in Fighter, or does he not need them?
Also, I'd heard that a Dreadmaster of Bane gets some sort of special perk, that other domains don't. Can anyone elaborate on that? Spoilers are fine, I'm not worried about that. Just curious about what he gets, and when, and if it's actually an interesting thing or just like... a random moment that could be missed, or something.
Thanks in advance for any answers/help.
Dreadmaster of Bane.
Hi Cyrist, Dreadmaster are probably the most powerful cleric of the lot from a spellcasting point of view:
1) one of their special ability is tyrant dictum which gives a +1 Dc to spells tha need Will S.T.
2) most of their class spell need will save -> they are powerfull
3) Symbol hopelessness neen will save
*****SPOILER*****
4) thanks to a special quest they get +2 to wisdom -> they can have highest wisdom of any other cleric -> their spell Dc is the most effective
So if you have 2 cleric, both can be effective frontliners, but your dreadmaster will be your most effective crowdcontroller.
As for the fighter levels they are not necessary, yes you get +1 AR & +2 Dmg for Weap spec + 8 hp and +1 AR for the fighter levels, but you will lose 1 Will ST, length to spell duration and a less effective Draw upon Holy might (great self buffing spell):
at lev 30 you get +10 to Str/Dex/Con, while at 26 you get +8 -> the difference is +1 AR/Dmg, 30 hp, potentially +1 AC, +1 to Reflex/Will ST.
So in the end the difference on your buffed char will be:
Cleric 30 vs Cleric26/fighter4: -1 AR/Dmg, +22 hp, potentially +1 AC, +1 Reflex ST and +2 Will ST.
In my opinion, if you want to mix in I would prefer 1+ monk lev for evasion, +2 to reflex St and the use of your incredible Wisdom to improve your AC.
