thyrim extract

Post by mewp »

Is there a use for this other than to help rebuild the airship? I keep coming across it and can't find a use for it. Also on another note I am playing a paladin for the first time. He is really useless.

The extract is useless.

A paladin would make an interesting solo through normal and HoF mode afterwards. Spellcasters are better than warriors in IWD2, but a good paladin build can contribute something to your party. I can't evaluate why your paladin feels useless if without knowing all the characters including stats in your party.

he seems to be a lousy fighter and has no magic worth using . Other than having one healing faction I can't imagine what good he is.

In theory, your paladin should be just as good as any other fighter in your party. I have had a paladin in about 75% of the dozen or so parties I've built for IWD2. They are usually one of my top 3 in the "kills" category.

The do have some very nice benefits other than laying on of hands and a few clerical spells. At 2nd level they gain immunity to fear. There are a fair number of opponents that either naturally exude a fear factor or have spells such as "Cloak of Fear" or "Horror", etc. Which force most of your party to have to save or run around like idiots. Your paladin is immune to it.

Your paladin is the only one who can use what it debatably the most powerful single weapon in the game, certainly one of the best.

As kmonster mentioned, it is difficult to assess what the problem may be without knowing your paladin's stats as well as what the make up of your party is. I will take a few stabs in the dark and maybe they might help.
What is your paladin's strength? If it is low or moderate, their melee to hit will suffer slightly.
What is their dexterity? Same situation regarding missle weapons if it is low.
What feats have you been chosing for your paladin when those opportunies occur?
Are they ones to enhance their fighting skills?
Weapons are they using?
Are you using some of the feats to give them greater proficiency in that weapon? That not only increases their ability to hit but also the amount of damage dealt.

Just a few thoughts.

Again as kmonster mentions the Thrym extract is useless, it will net you a modest amount of gold when you find someone to sell it to so if you have room you might carry it to sell.
