Combat Insight

Post by Krylus »

This might be rather trivial question answered in the tooltips of the feats, i just want to make sure i undestand it clearly. Does Weapon Finesse affect attack roll (chance to hit) and Combat Insight damage roll (damage dealt on sucessful hit), or does having both of these feats mean im getting attack bonus from either dex/int (not str), whichever is higher?
Thanks for answer.

With Weapon Finesse your to hit rolls will be determined by Dexterity (if it's higher then Strength) if you use light weapons

With Combat Insight your damage rolls will be determined by Intelligence (if it's higher then Strength) with any melee weapon.

Combat Insight doesn't affect to hit rolls and Weapon Finesse doesn't affect damage rolls.

Yup..

Finesse is an Attack modifier (Dex.). Works with weapons: Small, Tiny, and the Rapier - all depending on the size of your chosen Race.

Insight is a Damage modifier (Int.). (..and only at Epic levels and only with a combination of feats including Combat Insight.)

Its been awhile since I played, but doesn't combat insight stack with strength? And then there is the swashbuckler ability as well?
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Combat Insight doesn't stack with Strength. It replaces the Strength bonus to damage with Intelligence bonus (assuming Int > Str).

The Swashbuckler's ability, Insightful Strike (I'm assuming that's the one you're talking about?) should stack with Combat Insight. I've seen some posts on other forums that claim they tested it and they do stack together.

Yes, Combat Insight is a replacement (for Strength), in the same way Weapon Finesse is a replacement.

The Swashbuckler's Insightful Strike is an *additive* with additional limitations, so it can stack with either a Strength bonus or an Intelligent bonus derived form Combat Insight.

The fact is though that Combat Insight isn't terribly useful UNLESS you are playing an Epic character only - i.e. one that starts at level 21 and progress from there. (..say perhaps for an MOTB only build.)

The problems with it are:

1. It's Epic level only,
2. It does nothing for attacks
3. It requires several feats, 2 of which are Epic feats (which are precious).

The real killer IMO is the lack of attack modifier for Intelligence. Frankly there should be one just like Weapon Finesse is for Dexterity.
