Fade Ability Fonts glitch

Post by galraen »

Warning if the glitch I'm about to discuss is a general PC glitch, then this is a major spoiler, and I mean major!

I was trying out a mod and entered the Circle early, almost straight from Lothering, just a quick shopping trip to Denerim on the way.

Made my way to the point where you get sent to the The Fade: Lost in Dreams subquest and went about it as usual. got the mouse form, then went to where you get the Spirit form, then back to the original entry point to use the Wisdom Font.

This is where the glitch comes in. I found by accident some time ago that it was possible to get more than one ability point from a font, so I experimented on this run through. Sure enough, it worked .... on every font. By the end of the Fade my 10th Level Dwarf Rogue character has

Strength = 78
Dexterity = 127
Willpower = a mere 30 !
Magic = 90
Cunning =55
Constitution = 78

Obviously it's game over from that point, nothing can touch him, made checking out the mod easy though. :rolleyes:

I've searched around and haven't been able to find any reference to this, so I'm wondering if it's just my install, or it's just been missed.

If it is just my install, then I'll just uninstall the game, not worth re-installing, sadly there don't seem to be any worthwhile mods coming out, the game just doesn't allow room for it I guess without destroying the challenge, such as it is.

How it's done, Spoiler, highlight to read
Spoiler
The way I got it to work was by highlighting the activation icon, holding down the 'forward' key (up arrow by default I believe), and right clicking like crazy.
End of Spoiler

It doesn't always work, hence 'only' having 30 Wisdom and 55 Cunning; but as you can see, when it does work it can add crazy amounts of ability points.

Galraen, I can confirm that this is indeed a bug within DA and not your installation.

Merde, how can they not have fixed that with the patch. The unofficial fix doesn't fix it either; in fact I was suspicious that Qwinn's patch might have been the problem!

It really is interesting, unless it is one of those things that you just can't fix, though the process of granting a stat point seems simple enough.

I know for a fact that this issue has been for at least half a year. I've seem it at multiple sources at the time. Perhaps it could also be a not so well known bug as well.

Not well known seems more likely, as this is the first I've heard of it.

I use a cheat mod that gives one of every type of stat-raising tome every time you load the game, so I know about untouchable (200 in strength, willpower, magic, dexterity, cunning AND constitution each, plus 20,000 or so in gold? Quoting Alistair: Now THAT'S Dedication!) and also don't always bother about the Fade Stat boosters.
