Module Layout Proposal

Post by Nvlutz »

I hope this is in the right forum. It seems like the right place. Trust me this is D&D related! Kind of.

Not to bore you people with my life story or anything, but currently I'm in college taking Graphic Design and I'm working on building up my portfolio. The best way to do that is doing probono work for clients, rather than yourself or a professor, as a designer. I figure the best way to do this, is do something I like.

That's why when I heard about a supposed "Adventure Week" for D&D Module makers I was really interested.

The Full version:
Adventure Week — Dice, Food, Lodging

The Abridged version:
Basically people who want to try getting people to play their modules or get their modules to get some attention basically make a PDF of their adventure for this thing. I imagine most people interested in publishing their modules have really awesome ideas and might have even typed up the whole thing in word really nicely. But I'm also willing to be that very few of them have an artist or graphic designer who can lay out the text and make it look really nice and professional add in illustrations and turn a good module into a really amazing module.

So... that brings us to now. I'm basically really interested in helping someone build their module. They come up with the adventure, the stats, the concept, setting, fluff ect...
I'll get it to look crisp and professional. I'll even do art for you, if you don't like my art, or I can't get the quality or style you want... no problem. I have a bunch of tabs on some really awesome fantasy illustrators who would love to do some free, or cheap work for a module, I might even chip in abit of my own money to get original artwork from these guys. I'M NOT GOING TO GO ALL CRAZY AND PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR YOUR ILLUSTRATION WORK THOUGH. Sorry, just getting that through.

I'm only asking for several things.

A) I'll need a word document of your module. I can't build it without that.

B) We need to have constant communication, you have to answer your e-mails at least 3 times a week. I'm not going to get left high and dry on this.

C) I Want to be mentioned in the credits as the graphic designer and illustrator. If I don't do any illustrations then I want to be art director and ALL of my contacts who work on your module must be credited. Also all their artwork is only for this module. You only "own" it for the purposes of the module's publication and printing. For continued usage you'll need to discuss the full terms of usage with the illustrator, or I'll be the middle-man.

D) It has to be Dungeons & Dragons 3.x, 4th, or Pathfinder. It's not because I can't lay out material for other systems or whatever, well maybe I can't. But I only really have a deep rooted understanding of D&D and If I'm going to organize your information into proper heirarchies I need to know the in's and out's of the basics. AKA core D&D + synopsis of adventure/setting.

E) The final thing. While I realize that the module is your baby, and I'll be really understanding and respect your decisions. You have to trust and respect me and my decisions. Whenever I argue against certain things, it's not to be a dick, it's because what you think may look cool will actually look tacky and be a bad idea for sharing information. Keep in mind, I'm doing this for free, but I want to be able to show it off as being professional work.

F) Finally, after I finish the module. I must be allowed some the ability to have access to a copy of the final PDF, and/or a printed final version. Also don't be surprised if some of the illustrators involved want to have copies. For myself, I'll buy my own copy and even get my own printing accommodations, so it's not money out of your pocket also. I'm not going to turn on you and begin printing copies and selling your moduel for my profitable gain. If you're that worried, I'll stick with just a standard PDF final version. I want a copy as, once again, something tangible in my portfolio.

As you can see, not completely unreasonable demands considering that I'll definitely consider working on designing and illustrating your module FOR FREE. Either reply to this forum if you want to get started or ask for more details or PM me.

Once again, I apologize to the moderators if this is not where this topic goes.

Also If I find a module I wish to work on and everything is honky dorry, then this offer will close.

I'd say this thread is alright as long as it remains the way it is and doesn't become your atypical 'I draw for you, you give me money' sort of thing. Though, you may want to run this thread by BuckGB, just to be sure.
Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.

Sorry to anyone who was interested in this offer, I finally had a module to design. I probably won't be finished until a year from now.
IF a moderator wishes, they may delete this thread.
