I think I may have misunderstood how D&D is applied in PST. I need a little help to figure out what I did wrong while I still have a savegame to fall back on.
I started a new game and, with the intention of becoming a mage, I refrained myself from leveling up. I figured I could use the experience on mage levels solely.
Two things did not proceed as planned
-After completing the quest, I turn to a level 1 mage. After leveling up just one time, I turn into a level 3 mage
-While doing this I get no points to spend on my attributes.
Should I have expended all my collected xp on fighter levels first, before turning into a mage? I tried using the xp I gathered on a savegame just before I turned mage. I was able to go from a level 3 to a level 4 figher and I gained one point to spend on my base attributes.
I am not clear on what happened here. How does PST handle this situation and what should I do?

You get an attribute point when you reach a new level, but only when you didn't reach it with another class before. Since you already have 3 fighter levels you have to reach level 4 for the next attribute point bonus.
So don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong.
I recommend switching back to fighter and going to level 4 before reaching level 4 as mage, you already have the XP and for reaching level 4 as fighter instead of as mage first you gain 1-10 instead of 1-4 HP at level up.
I'd even take level 5 and 6 as fighter first too, for lousy additinional 8,000 + 16,000 XP (a level up as mage after level 11 requires more than 15 times that many XP) you get up to 14 additional hitpoints.

Ah, thank you. I think that explains why I couldn't get the mage to level 4, as I would have leveled the fighter that far. That was a little confusing.
It's a shame the xp is wasted but.. I didn't really do any quests yet anyway. Aside from the few in Mortuary at least and the odd thug here and there. I thought about multiclassing, but out of RP consideration I decided not to do that.
Thanks again for your help. I can continue playing again.
