Freudian slips

Post by C Elegans »

Everybody know what a Freudian slip is? In case not, a brief explanation:

Early in the 20th century, neurologist Sigmund Freud put forward the idea than the human mind has an unconscious level, which he called the id. Freud believed our unconscious wishings and lusts would manifest themselves unintentionally, in a "masked" form.

The expression Freudian slip means that you say or do something by mistake, but the mistake you do, is revealing your real thoughts/wishes. A nice example is the Monty Python sketch when somebody says "Freudian slit" ;)

So, post you best Freudian slips :D

One of mine: I was talking to a person who had long been behaving in an annoying way due to psychological problems. This person had started psychotherapy, and was telling me how much he had improved. I didn't think he had improved as much as he himself thought, and I replied:

"Yes, it's obvious you are in a very aggressive phase"

I meant to say progressive... :D

Ehhh .... why must I always be so boring.

I've had none of these - the only time something "slips" out is when I want it to.
I've never told anybody anything I didn't what then to know

lol!! I never used to get on with the girlfriend of an old friend of mine, but our conversations were always polite.

One day she was telling me that she had lost four stone in weight before I met her. Not thinking, I responded 'You were *that* big?'

Whoops! I had put too much emphasis on the word 'that'. Bear in mind this girl was still overweight, it appeared that I could not imagine her being any bigger

I had intended to sound impressed...open mouth and insert foot... :(

Well, in ninth grade I was in a school play. I was a nurse. There I was in white uniform, nurses hat borrowed from my grandmother, syringe (and orange to practice on, apparently I wasn't a very *good* nurse). :)

My line, in front of EVERYONE, was:

"I know you think I'm pushy."

What I said was:

"I know you think I'm *word removed as it's probably not appropriate*"

I don't know HOW I lived that one down.
