martin dies

Post by mewp »

At the defense of Bruma Martin keeps getting killed before the great gate even opens. I tried to kill everything quickly before they could get to him but the other soldiers keep getting in my way. Can I freeze him or put him back in town? He doesn't appears to be able to keep himself alive.

This might be obvious, but concentrate your most lethal firepower (spells, weapons, whatever) on anything that attacks him and ignore everything else (which will probably mean drinking a lot of health potions, since you'll be taking undefended hits from everything else on the battlefield). Keeping him alive is obviously more important than your reputation, so just whack away regardless of how much friendly fire you inflict on your other companions and deal with the assault (or murder) rap later.

Another possibility is casting a paralyze spell on Martin. He won't be able to help you, but at least he can't run off into a swarm of daedra, which helps you dictate the circumstances of the combat. I've never tried it on him, but I have used it in other situations to prevent friendly NPCs from running headlong into lethal danger and give me time to clear a room ahead of them. It doesn't make them very happy, but it keeps them alive.

And as a last resort, you can turn the difficulty slider down.

Also, this won't be much help unless you start a new game, but this battle is much easier for lower level characters. Martin, Jauffre and friends can hold their own against imps, but put them up against Xivilai and spider daedra and you have a bloodbath on your hands (and you quickly find yourself fighting the horde alone).
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

I would also recommend duration heal buffs to be casted on martin. I cant quite remember my spell variation, but it lasted for 20 seconds and helped lots in keeping him alive. Having uber items also helps. Use the shield of chorrol and other stuff that can reflect damage or absorb enemy spells. That way you can become martin's meatshield much easier.

Summoned clanfears could prove to be a good distraction for the deadra as they are pretty hardy once you reach a high enough level. Worse comes to worse paralyse martin and stand over his prone body, killing all who come near till the final gate opens :p

EDIT: Belthan it seems we both came up with the same conclusion of paralyzing martin lol. Btw, the spell works fine on him. I did it plenty of times in the build up to the final battle just for laughs

Martin

I finally just ran from gate to gate and killed everything that came out of it before Martin could get there. Thanks.
