An explanation, if you please.

All right, everytime I visit this forum I see certain threads that go on and on like the Energizer Bunny on steroids. I can't be bothered to read them, but I feel kind of... well, left out of meaningful discussions, so I was hoping someone who participates in those topics can give me a brief summary of what the topic is about about, and the reason why it deserves so much input and attention. Am I missing a discussion on the meaning of existence, or something? Please let this onely lurker know. The threads I'm referring to are: Goody, Dark Flame, Red Lion Inn (or any one of the other drinking establishments), and a few others that have been around since Easter. Thanx in advance.

Any drinking establishment were really just like a pub in the real life. You don't have to pay attention to what's going on there, like you go to a pub/bar with your mate. You just walk in, see if any regulars are aroud, or if there's something interesting happening, and join in to the conversation if you like. The very first establishment was the Five Flagons, founded by Saigo, which was a great place to have a drink and fun. :)

Dark Flame is a story thread, which started in BG2 forum I believe.

I'll leave someone else to explain about Goody. It's too much for me. :D

I'll try, remind me of the missing parts please :)

Goody was THE thread of all threads EVER (oh well, at least when I was using this msg. board :) ). It all started out pretty easy 'n nuff by the sleepy-guy. It was about BG (and rpg's in general) being for "good-shoes" (or something like that). What he meant was that the games "forced" one to actually play "good" in order to have most out of the game.

After a bit the discussion got immense. Goody was the first EVER thread to reach 2 pages!!! (I was the one who reached it actually :D )

The main discussion got to approx. 2 pages I believe, then the thread changed from being game-related to everything-related, which was quite funny actually, I'm still amused by the few memories I hold of that godlike thread :p

Anyway, Goody was also the first thread to reach to page 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6... Not to mention the pages 7, 8, 9, 10 (... If I would continue it would take up a whole page for itself), but u surely understand what I mean.

Goody was also the first thread to introduce spammers to the board. Some of the master spammers were sleepo and maurice (is he still around btw?) who really mastered the art of spamming. They had many followers, one of them was kiddo who would turn out to be a very potent spammer indeed, but with all the good the evil follows, too. Some of the minor spammers, the spammer wannabees, would *really* spam. How does one *really* spam u ask? Post things like 1 in one post, and 2 in the post after that, or just write one word without meaning, that's the bad spamming. The master spammers did spam in a different way, they were spamming with more or less relevant information ;)

Where do I come into the picture then you ask? Oh ye, I nearly forgot. I did mention me being the first user to post on page 2, 'aight? Anyway, beside doing that historical thing I consider myself to be the master spammer of long posts :D U can prolly figure out what that title means.

To conclude things I can say that GOODY was the mother/father of all the following threads. People tried to copy the thread, but most of the ones that tried did fail miserably. Goody was locked at some point of time and was close to being DELETED! But the true followers of GOODY managed to keep it alife, for eternity they thought. But things weren't what they looked like. Eventually GOODY got wiped out. Deleted by the mighty god of this board. The one and only Buck...

This is the story of GOODY, which now lies in the ruins of SYM, where it was moved at some point of time. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that GOODY was one reasons (if not THE reason) why SYM (this forum, Speak YOur Mind) was created.

That must have cast some light over the shadows that clouded ur mind :) Enjoy ur stay with fellow adventurers...

What Bordin left out, is that it also spawned other threads, such as Goody 2 (When Goody was closed) and the Anti-goody. It is, in essence, everything that spam stands for, and accounted for about 4000 posts of SYM, not including Goody 2, the Anti-Goody, and other other "Goody" related topics.

ROFLMAO :D Apart from the Dark flame story, which I don't participate in so I can't really comment on that, the "Pub threads" would not really make it into the cathegory "meaningful discussion". Rather "entertaining spam discussion" :D

Probably sometimes, but the level of discussion is nothing that would awaken Kant or Kirkegaard from their graves :D

I knew there was a reason why I liked 'em... :D

As already pointed out, the Dark Flame thread is a story. We write it because we enjoy writing it. And if there are other people who enjoy reading it, then so much the better :) Lurkers seem to have a tendency to join in eventually, I don't know if we have any lurkers at the moment. ;) (Excluding myself... :o )
