2009: Oddities in Oblivion the Game! (Spoilers?)

Post by LeoStarDragon1 »

Greetings, Forum Folks! :)

In "TV GUIDE" they have a column titled, "Is It Just Me?" and another one called, "What the Keck?". (No, that's not a typo, "Keck" is the columnist's surname.) So I thought, why not have something like that here for the forum readers and writers to post similiar rants or raves, et al, in? I don't know if this has been done here before or not. If it has, I at least put a year in the title so newer readers would know when this one began, at least. (Yes, I tried to pun "2001: A Space Odyssey"! :p )

Anyway, rather than reply to my own thread starter, I'll begin now with my own observation of something I find to be odd in the game. I'll start mine with #00.

#00: "Through A Nightmare, Darkly": Yesterday was the most recent time that I've done this quest. I find it ironic or at least odd that,
Spoiler
in the Dream World you can still use your journal and that the entries are still in it, once you leave it! It must be magic! Also, okay, my character found herself "naked" in the Dream World, but when she woke up, she was also "naked". (She's actually a Nudist, so she doesn't ever feel "naked".) It must be magic! Unless the Khajiit was being curious! :p
Hm. Okay, now that I've written that much, it occurs to me, that it may be redundant as part of the point of a forum is to post such musings anyway, albeit one at a time and per individual. But I shall post it anyway and see what happens to it next.
Shhh! Be very quiet! I may be sleep writing and sleep reading!

Cool, a Larry Niven reference (at least, Niven was where I first heard that distinction between "nude" and "naked")...
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

Hehehe! I used to sneak-read Dad's book, "The Nudist Society"! :mischief:

Oddly enough though, it was one of my dictionaries in which I first read the distinction in a way that I understood what was meant. Then it became either amusing or annoying, depending on the reaction, when I'd explain the distinction to other people.

Apple Candy Cane's in a coma!

This could probably go into the worst moments thread, but I'm putting it here as an oddity instead!

I replied to Raven Whitehawk, left the forum, started up my game, and then made my discovery, and now I'm back here again to write about it;.

I don't recall this ever happening before, but it might have and I didn't notice or I've forgotten it. I used to play at a more rapid pace in the beginning and didn't pay as much attention to details. If it didn't work, delete and try again. Now I ponder it more and save for later in case a solution comes along. A game version of cryonic suspension I guess!

But anyway, I didn't think it mattered, as she had the "Ring of Stat Raising", but now I know it does. Lately, somehow, the stats aren't saved, and the ring has to be re-equipped after each load up, to boost them up again. Before it was just a one time deal. Once you had the ring, your stats didn't waver.

Well, she was doing the quest for the "Shield of the Crusader". She's standing just inside the fort doorway, or the foyer if you will. She can drink potions, take off stuff and put it back on, and jump up and down just a foot high or so. But she can't move otherwise! Her Health Meter shows her to be empty!

I had her place the ring on again, and it filled it, but that didn't work. She drank some health potions, but that didn't work. So it is like she's in a coma!
But one where she's standing upright.

Well, her original face disappeared anyway after a bout with Vamperism. Sure she got to be pretty again, but it wasn't the original face. She looked like somebody else.

Well, lessons learned I hope! I hope too that my new character that I'm just about to create once I leave here, will have a better life span!
Shhh! Be very quiet! I may be sleep writing and sleep reading!

Valen Dreth 1 versus Valen Dreth 2! (Spoilers?!)

Did you know that there are two Valen Dreths?! Did you know that the sewer gate you exit from doesn't lock and get a message posted on it, unless you join the "Dark Brotherhood"?

Playing on an "X-Box" or something like it, I guess it'd be more apparent as to why. Because on such systems, you have no choice but to re-enter a place more than once, if you want to empty the place of all loot, no matter how worthless it may seem at the time. At least, that was how I had to do it when playing the game on my brother's game system. Which I didn't do until after I'd been playing on mine for awhile.

I play using the PC version. I learned about the game from watching my best friend playing on his PC. I remarked that it was too bad that they didn't have a "Bag of Holding". However he had the topless unlocker mod. When he explained to me what a "mod" was I realised that someone out there would have made a "Bag of Holding". So when I eventually got my own copy of the game and a PC good enough to play it on, I began hunting for mods.

So for the most part, I've only played with mods installed. So I didn't have to make several trips to loot just one place. I could do it in only one trip! Hence the delay in noticing that there's something about Valen Dreth, as opposed to Mary.

Some players can't wait to kill him off in that DB quest, because of the taunts at the beginning. However, I'm here to inform those of you that don't already know it, that the one you kill off in the DB quest, is not the same one that taunts you in the beginning! Heck, you aren't even in the same cell!

That's why you can't backtrack the exact same path to get to him, that you used to get away from him! The detour takes you to an alternate cell area with who I like to refer to as, "Valen Dreth II"!

So now I've taken to rescuing "Valen Dreth I", along with the non-hostile "Sewer Rat" whom I rename, "Splinter the Magical Sewer Rat", before I leave the area for good, before the "Langoliers" get them! :p

Each Valen Dreth has his own number to allow him to be set essential. So you can have two of them in your army if you want. (Yes, kill 2 off first to do the needed quest stage advance. But then simply resurrect him afterwards, one way viai spell, or another via Console Window command.)

Ta-dah!
Shhh! Be very quiet! I may be sleep writing and sleep reading!
