Installation problem

Post by Waughoo »

I hope someone here can help me, as I've been trying to fix this for a few hours. My wife bought this game years ago, but has never been able to get it to run, so I thought I'd try it.

When I go to install the game, it does fine till it's about 99% done. Then it has an error in data2.cab, and crashes to the desktop. I've already tried copying the disks to the hard drive and installing from there. I've also tried installing in win98 compatibility mode (I'm running XP). And I've tried swapping the setup.ins file with the one off of activisions site. No matter what I try it still crashes at that same place.

I dont think it's just a bad disk, cause our friend has the same problem with her copy. And before someone asks, no, this isnt a pirated copy of the game.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did your friend buy their copy from the same store? It could be a bad batch of discs. It does sound like a disc problem to me - have you tried cleaning the disc and checked for scratches. Also, does it copy onto the hard drive ok, or does it get stuck copying that file?

No, I dont think it's a bad batch of disks, as the two copies were purchased a year or two apart. I've checked for scratches already. When I copy the disk to the pc, I dont have any problems, so I dont think it's the disk. Perhaps the file itself on the disks are bad, I dunno.

I just had an idea though, if it is the file then maybe I could replace it on one of the hard drive copies. Any ideas where I might get the data2.cab? It's only a 2kb file.
