Main Quest Spoiled (possible spoilers)

I can't believe it. I had just gotten into Three Dogs lair and gotten his first task added to my quest log. I was getting tired of the frustration of navigating DC and decided to just head out into the wilderness and explore for awhile. Thought I need a change of scenery and headed out to some unexplored locations posted on my world map. This turned up some great opportunities what with the new places I discovered, additional quests, etc. But then I stumbled into this one place, entered and explored it. Next thing I know I've discovered the missing Dad. This really sucked - when I checked my quest log all the potential quests I would have been given as part of finding him showed up as already complete. I reloaded an earlier save but that one time thrill of playing a game for the first time was pretty much ruined by this. I would have thought that after FO2's game spoiling flaw (that is being able to head straight out to San Fran by-passing everything in between) that the developers would have made it such that you couldn't get into this particular place without having done the other steps or gotten some kind of password or key. Though I like Bethesda's non-linear approach to game play, this IMO should have been one area of the game that was a bit more linear. Anyway, just thought I'd post this as a fair warning to those who like to explore. Otherwise I think this is an incredible game.

Yeah, something similar happened to me the first time I played, except I never went to see Three Dog and just stumbled across Dr Li in Rivet City. It was pretty disappointing, but then, so is the main quest in general.
