IWD1. Some controls not working

Hi. Has anybody seen any problems with some of the controls not working in IWD. I have the game installed on 2 computers. One is working fine, the other is not.
The controls in question are the ones along the bottom of the main screen that control party formation and more importantly single character special abilities: stealth; spell casting etc...

When I click on the buttons nothing happens. It won't highlight. Nothing.

I am using a recently purchased IWD compilation of IWD1 & heart of winter plus IWD2. As this is a recently produced compilation I have assumed that it incorporates any of the patches available so have not tried to add any patches seperately. The PC is an Intel 2600 with 1GB ram & with a geforce 256MB FX5700 which is slightly higher than the computer where all works OK.

I have tried a re-install the gamne and have updated the graphics card driver.

Has anybody else seen similar issues or got any ideas of what I can try.
