Galraen - thanks; on 2 points.
I think you actually clarified a "confused scenario" I ran into (... more later).

I did note: Azura is a coast region = look along the coast for the Azura Star Soul gem

I will go buy the correct spells.
My spell list is really big :-)
As soon as I think I'm understanding the gameplay, another few questions pop up :-(

I decided to start North and work South along the Azura coast(... I'll bet the Azura Star tomb/cavern/temple/shrine etc is South).

I ran into an island with a fortress structure; starts with "Ind".
I fought into the place.
Then tried to Soultrap the Winged Twilight = either I did it incorrectly OR my gem isn't strong enough ... going to make a target Soultrap = had hand trouble switching from Soultrap to my killer spell ... then again, maybe ranged spells can't Soultrap ? ... so I tried my Spear, but the hands got me into trouble = in melee, I couldn't switch from spell to weapon and the winged twilight whooped me
Going to practice tonight.

I thought the people were friendly = took a beating ... don't want to kill a NPC
Some ran away = not sure if they were friendly ... 2nd fight

Then I get to the end = 2 guys standing on ledges
Now, here it gets confusing/interesting ... I did the " observe before acting tactic"
As I got close to the mouth of the cave, the guy on the left "went nuts" ... guy on the right stood still :-)
I fought the left guy = barely won
Here's the confusing rub ???? ... the guy on the right was a NPC with the usual dialogue options
The guy I killed had a "name" and looked like the other guy ... I'm deducung that he was NOT to be killed ... but 3 times, he went nuts ????
I'm thinking he might be "mad/have a spell on him etc" ... two guys in close proximity should" act the same
I deleted those saves and wil ReDo/DoOver; AGAIN. (LOL)
I went and bought Blind/Charm/Calm Creature/Calm Humanoid ... If I can get to him before he goes nuts, maybe "I get something" = the Azura Star would be nice ... maybe a quest to get the Star ???
Something just seems weird = I can't figure it out
If nothing works, I'll leave till I figure it out

Now I have this dilemma + finding the Master trainers for Endurance and Enchant
Would be nice if dialogue options like " particular person" would tell me if they were in that town.

Going to do more spell shopping + try and Soultrap something easy ... need to put Absorb Health on my Spear

Very addicting game = I'm actually losing rest/sleep because "I'm thinking what I need to do/what I did wrong etc" (LOL).
I deleted 7 games from my hard drive = I can this game(s) will be like Diablo2 LoD ... consume me = when you lose skeep + don't take medication on time, you know you're addicted/hooked !

You can get rid of unwanted spells by holding down the shift key whilst clicking on the spell.

I suspect the place you were referring to was Indoranyon, is the location of the master trainer for Enchant. Not the non-hostile guy (Erundil) but one of the ones who attacked you Qorwynn. See this thread for more details:

As the thread Galraen posted above indicates, it is very difficult to train with the Master Trainer in Enchant.
Another option, rather than using said master trainer, is to have Skink in the Sadrith Mora chapter of the Mage's Guild train you up to 64. Then once you have Azura's Star in your possession find/buy/make some kind of amulet or ring that summons creatures (Ancester Ghost works well, but any will do), and soul trap the conjured creature into Azura's Star.
Use the soul to recharge any enchanted item in your inventory, and continue to do this as needed. Alternately, you can also trap the souls of the various critters/daedra/undead you meet in your travels, the key here is to make sure you keep using the souls to recharge your enchanted items because this is an effective way to increase your Enchant skill.

Or if you want I can whip up a mod. All I do is make the enchant trainer's non-hostile friend hostile, and make the enchant trainer himself non-hostile. That way it's still balanced and I think that was what it was meant to be like. I'll also place the master medium armour trainer and the enable the armourer master trainer.

Which expansions are you using Joe? Vanilla Morrowind, Morrowind + Tribunal, or Morrowind + Tribunal and Bloodmoon?

He's already said he doesn't want to use cheats or exploits, and that fits very neatly in the second category. ;)

... lots to think over; Thanks !

I'm playing the PC version GOTY ... Morrowind + Tribunial + Bloodmoon
Only mod is "Fair Magicka Regen".

DW: I'm a bit slow and your idea looks easy, but as usual, I'm more confused :-)
I want to save the Azura Star for the CE/INTL on my Robe ... so I can have extra Magicka
I first have to solve a few problems = explain later

Galrean - will delete some spells.
I went spell shopping and bought a bunch of low priced spells ... hit every guild/town/shrine/temple ... I see, you never know what you will need :-)

AmpaSand - I think I kind of chessy-cheated by leveling up after buying skills.
I don;t want to over do it :-)
My Alchemy is at 61 ... bought it and plowed points into INTL
So, I can by cheap Restore Fatigue ingredients and make expensive potions, which I sell to Creeper.
I'm ok for money. Just have to watch that I don't keep leveling.

MageLord - I'm ok for now.
Took me 1+hrs to figure it out but I got to Qorwyn.
I actually liked the fighting up to and including him ... thought the extra wrinkles(.... don't want to spoil it for others) were kind of, "over the top"
I think 4 trips back, when I have the $ should get me near 100 in Enchant.

My problem now is with Soultrap.
I did notice the gems I stole had Winged Twilight in a Greater Soul Gem.
Two nights ago, it was my main enemy before Qorwyn, but I could not trap his soul ?
I even made a 300sec Target Soultrap to give me time, but it did not work ?
I did se the grey circles around him, but no soul was trapped ?
I'm confused.
I'm guessing, you can't Target-Spell kill the creature ... either the spell nullifies the Soultrap and/or the distance between you and the creature is too far ?
That only leaves melee ... a Breton-Mage-Apprentice will not beat a Winged Twilight = at least he whopped me

Last night the main enemy was a lizard with a long nose(... sorry, no name).
I only tried Soultrap-Melee once, so I don't know the creatures names = later battles I was concentrating on tactics/surviving :-)
He literaly "beat me down" ... yes, right to the ground ... seemes melee > spellcasting in close quarters as his attacks nullified spellcasting(... it interferred with it/ stopped it) ... melee and close spellcasting vs him was futile

Which leads me to wonder; "how in the heck I can beat a Golden Saint or Ascended Sleeper" (... hope I rembered those names correctly)

I don't want to include Soultrap basics/primer info in this thread :-)
I will search the database and see if I can find what I'm doing wrong.
It's not a problem now, as I'm practicing for when I find the Azura Star and come across either creature.

But, since I have not captuted one soul yet, I think "I'd better figure it out ASAP" (LOL)
Obviously I'm doing something wrong and/or don't understand the process.
Knowing what creature fits in what gem and the charges available, well, that's another issue ... believe I saw a post on that in another database thread

Need to learn for this character plus all the future characters running through my head :-)

I figure, I have to visit Qorwyn 4 more times ... by then my Enchant should be near 100 ... then I should get bang for the bucks I spent

I'm going to search the database for Soultrap.
If I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, I'll start a new thread.
I refer to this post, as to not have to repeat the above :-)

Thanks for all the help.
Never have gotten this far without the help/tips/info.

I hope the questing will take care of itself once I figure out the gameplay mechanics.

... sorry for the added post
Checked the database and found "Soultrap(spoiler)" thread.

Mr_Sir noted............>
If you are not a melee fighting character it can be useful to make a spell that casts soul trap for 60 or 120 seconds on a target. It hardly costs anything ot make this spell and makes life a lot easier as you can soul trap from a distance then use target spells while levitated above things like dremoras so they can't hit you in melee.

I actually figured something out on my own = patting myself on the back (LOL)

But, I did exactly that on the Winged Twilight and the "long-nosed-Lizard".
Soultrapped it; levitated away and Absobed Health till it was dead.
I have a Greater Soul Gem on me, yet no soul was trapped.
I did beat them at range within 300sec; I know I did :-)
So I'm confused = I did exactly as Mr_Sir posted
My gem is/was still empty.

Sometimes the creature fell in the water = does that matter ?
Do I have to do anything once the creature is dead ?
I thought the soul should go right into my gem ... I tried r-clicking on the dead creature(... like when the amulet of shadows would not up my WILL + INTL), just gave me an ingredient

Yes, back to Qorwyn ... try to Soultrap
Sorry to include it in this thread ... since another thread was already in the database + I did as posted and nothing happened, I figured this thread would be ok

Anyone see what I'm doing wrong ?

Personally if I usually use a weapon I've enchanted to capture souls; typical example:

Silver Shortsword - Soul trap on striking for 4 seconds+absorb healt xdamage for 3 seconds on striking (both touch).

I make a point of having the soul trap last for one second longer than the absorb health, and absorb health because it doesn't get reflected.

Golden Saints are the most difficult because the crafty wenches have a habit of dispelling magic on themselves; this doesn't work if you use a weapon.

However ST doesn't always work, for some reason it occasionally glitches for no apparent reason. If at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again.

I've attached a zipped .ESP that I created, it does a couple of things

1. Impliments the fPCmagickaMult we've discussed previously, I discoverd when testing this however that the change only affects characters created after making the change. Hence our problems in the past. I've left a present on the table next to the Orc in the Balmora mages guild that overcomes this. Note this is only intended for a character that was created prior to using the ESP

2. It increases the carrying capacity by 50%

3. It places a Master Medium armour trainer in the game (Tel Fyr)

4. It makes Qorwin non hostile as ML suggested. NB this might not work if you've already fought him, not sure on that.

PS Unzip the ESP into your Data Files folder

Galraen - thank you.

Well 5+hrs of Indorayon.
Here's what I've discovered..........>
* trapped 2 Golden Saints (...cheated = gave myself an Azura Star ...no; I did not keep the soul)
* trapped 2 Dremora ... kept one I earned in my Greater Soul Gem
* trapped 1 Dremora Lord
* trapped 1 Storm Antonach
* trapped 1 Frost Antronach

Daedroth and Hunger ... never trapped

Now, I played every battle the same ?
I saw the Soultrap whirling, yet most often, I came up empty.
That's only 7 souls in 5+ hrs ... not good :-)
Died many times = when I got "too close" ... only Levitate saved me
Distance made no difference on those I trapped = I was either reasonably close OR all the way on the back wall of the cavern

Guess it is hit or miss on Soultrapping.
That's it fot Indorayon for "awhile" ... did add many nice weapons + loads of $ which allowed me to up my Enchant

Did add an Ebony Spear + Daedric Tanto ... will have to use my gem on one ?

Time to start questing and find a real Azura Star.

Happy to help.

Grand Soul gems are all you need for Golden Saints and Ascended Sleepers, the only soul you need Azura's Star for is Vivec.

Don't bother using a big enchentment on either as they cost a fair lot or have a small chance of success. Plus those weapons are relitively rare so i'd keep them until you can put on a good enchantment or have a better weapon to pay to get enchanted....

What type of weapon are you using?

You could get the Daedric Tanto enchanted with the greater gem with a Dremora soul by Dabienne Mornardl in the Sadrith Mora mags guild. I just checked and you can enchant it with Trap Soul for 15 seconds and Absorb health 10 health points, she charged me 4815 Septims for it, but her disposition was only 75, so would have been even cheaper had I increased it.

Make sure its set to 'On striking' not 'On use' before finalising the deal, on use weapons are a pain in the derriere.

The first CE enchantment I always buy is restore fatigue, usually on a pair of boots, it really takes the pain out of running and jumping.

AmpaSand - been using a Spear.
Since I pumped so many points into it, in order to up my Endurance, it zoomed up to 60+.
But, I'm loaded with $ after Indorayon ... took awhile, but I was able to buy/resell Creeper $70,000
Think I'm going to up my Shortblade skill to roughly equal that of Spear.

Galrean - just found a Grand Soul Gem.
Don't ask me how :-)
I'm just hitting new towns and wandering ... it was just lying in an empty ship ... no fighting at all = game confuses me (LOL)
I'd better remove the gem as to not trap a Mudcrab !
I also found a Ebony Shortsword = fought two Dremora in Khuul ... luckily they jumped in the water on both sides of the cavern = first try they beat me down in a 2:1 on land ... seems Ebony is pretty good ?
Dumped the Tanto.

Does the game rachet up the dufficulty as I level ? ... ran into two Daedroth's just on the edge of Sadith Mora
Also, seems what I find is better in fights and caves.

I still have the extra gems I stole + I'll bet I add better weapons.
Plus, I'm still going to hit the Azura Coast and look for the "Star".

When I get the Star, I will CE my robe with INTL ... will have to find Mr_Sir post on the correct option = don't want to Fortify when I should Restore ... then I should be able to use my spells more often(... which is how I envisioned this character)

I wonder when I'll get to questing (LOL)
I'm having a blast exploring and fighting.

Side note: "I hate Daedroth's" ... would really like to trap one
Still have not seen a Ascended Sleeper.
Trying to get accustomed to the creatures/humans and their weaknesses.
But, I do know this, " my character can't win a mano e mano fight" ... all my wins are chessy chicken wins :-)
I'll be hard pressed when the game/creatures diffuculty approach my level per se ... since I bought level ups, my point/attributes/skill are as close to optimum as I believe I could make them ... now it's a few 1's and 2 when I level

Then I'll need that CE robe + time to make better spells.

Maybe I'll throw in a quest ... I'm stubborn; I want that Star + get my END to max

Looks like you're going to be a pro at this before long or is that an addict Joe :D
Answer to one of your questions....
Yes, enemies and booty get to be of better quality as you level up.
Ebony :D One of my favorites.

You can buy grand, greater and common soul gems in the Crafstmen's hall in Mournhold, Petty and lesser soul gems from a shop in Tel Branora. As long as you have empty soul gems of each type there's no need to worry about ending up with a mudcrab's soul in a grand SG. The game uses the weakest available gem by default.

Don't get obsessive about Azura's Star, as long as you have grand soul gems you won't need it until the end of the main quest. Why some people rave about it baffles me.

OT: Even some people that play Oblivion seem to think it's the bee's knees, whereas IMO it's the weakest Daedric artifact in the game, and is always the one I give Martin.

CE foritfy attritbute is one of the most point sucking enchantments i have found.... I suggest searching for items already in the game that do it for you, as they are often much better and seem to have more enchantment than the base item actually holds.

Found in sixth house bases mostly inside the ghost fence but also outside.

Also, somewhere between level 15 and 20 you start finding Greater and Grand Soul Gems in smuggler's caves. It might be earlier than that for some, but it's always been my experience anyway.
