Cool!
We used to do that everytime at computerclass, someone had put Quake (1) on one of the pc's. Needless to say, it spread like crazy! :D Besides, who needs to learn Windows or word anyway? It's simple as pie.

Baldur's gate (II) is a great game to play over a network. It's realy fun, and try to play with each person only having one character
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Lucasart's excellent game "Jedi Outcast" (or maybe someone has?!?)... All that lightsaber duelling helps you endure the long wait for Star Wars episode III... :)

If you're into Quake original, may I suggest a mod for it which makes it infinitely better. It's called SuperQuake, I'll look for a link...

...I can't find one, but I've got the .zip file on my computer and I'll see if I can mount it on a website for anyone who wants to download it, or you could try and find it yourself. Anyway, it's a great mod and I think that anyone who still plays Quake should definitely give it a go - all the weapons have different modes to them, there are new types of armour, new types of deathmatch and a grappling hook :D and somehow it seems to be still quite well balanced. A personal favourite is "WeaponMaster" deathmatch in which you have to get a kill with each of the 20-something weapons to win... :)

I tried Quake 1, but it didn't work. Damn this XP!
I was looking forward to coop through the whole game. Luckely I found a coop mod for Half life. We'll try it soon.

Tell the truth, I prefer Q3 deathmatch far and away over UT deathmatch, but the other modes are where UT ownz :D

Also, we've never managed to get Q3 running at a LAN party - only about 2 or 3 computers manage to join a game whereas UT is much kinder. Someone told me that you need to have NetBEUI installed for Q3 to work, is this true? 'Cos some of us took it out for simplicity's sake.

I dunno. :D
Truth is, I didn't even install our network.. well, I tried. But a friend of mine did it in about a half our after we tried it for about 4 weeks. :D
Quake worked like a charm, we didn't have to do anything about it. :)

Yes that will cause a problem, the only thing you need is TCP/IP and IPX/SPX, any other protocols are unimportant to your network gaming, they might be required for other things that i am not aware of on your system. If you have AOL that will screw up everything on you network. Also if you have different speed network cards or hub it might effect things. All of the users will need the same protocols, otherwise it wont work (in my experience) Set everyone up wth 192.168.0.(sequential numbers) that should sort any problems.....I am so sad :o :D

Thanks. None of us had AOL(phew), everyone had IPX/SPX and TCP/IP and UT worked fine, so I was wondering if another protocol was needed for Q3...there are also many other places where things could conflict, such as the multiple versions of Windows we were running and the 10MB hub connected to the 100MB duplex switch, but why would UT work and not Q3?

And Sleepy, don't feel you're sad because you know all that - feel sad because you're less than 500 posts away from 10k :D

What patch version have you got? There should be no other protocol needed to play Q3A, it should run fine on IPX. if you have the option of pure server on switch it off as it might cause problems. It might also be an issue with the 10/100 conversion.

I have to say that I blame Windows ME :D Whenever something goes wrong at a LAN party no one can ever contradict you if you blame it on Windows ME ;)

OK thanks, there's not much that I can do to test out any of the suggestions until the next time we have a LAN party, which will be after the exams  but I'll certainly try stuff out. If people actually wanted to play Q3 instead of saying "well UT works so why don't we stick with that?" we'd probably get further... :D

I have been playing GTA3 for 3 days now and i am over half way through, there is apparently 74 missions, it wont be long before i finish it.

The game is a crazy system hog, my Athlon 1200 with GeForce that doesn't have a problem with any other game is forced to run in 640x480 with the draw distance set at the lowest level and all the special effects off. I must say it is also quite glitchy, they said they were going to do a re-build on the engine, pshaw they probably spent about 5 minutes on it ;)

I must admit it is great fun and it one of the most realistic games available, you crash into a few lamp posts and your car is practically uselss, it can lead to some very tense moments as you have 3 minutes to speed your way through traffic and get a guy to an airport. There is also the freedom to assault everyone and anyone but i found that completely pointless and avoided the possible trouble it causes...overall i would reccommend it to anyone who has a machine over 1500mhz with a GeForce ti of some kind.
