Where did mythology for BG series come from?

I am going to. Perhaps "bullsh!t" was a bit extreme, but you did not state them as opinions. You included it as "another fact." The fact of the origin of every story of the Bible is right there in the Bible, if you're willing to accept the Bible as true. If you're not going to accept the truth of the Bible, then why even bother reading it, ne? If you want to learn more about the truth of the Bible, then PM me.

To be more exact, the only type of "racism" really was the Jews opinions of gentiles, including the Samaritans, which they had a greater dislike of because of religious disagreements on where to worship.

@Shadow, I never about about any "white race," so you might read a little closer before criticizing. ;) You may be referring to Aegis' remark.

Oops. Anyways, the Romans and Greeks were generally not Christian, though most Palestinian groups of people eventually formed Christian churches, until the persecution of Nero in AD68 (or around there somewhere). Thus there were few if any 'white Christian men' back at the time ;)

@SS, like I said, I don't want to get into this, here. I'll end up siting numerous reference works by highly respected Christian scholars; you'll end up denying they're Christian, and demanding whom I think I am to write about the opinions of Christians, anyway. We've been there; done that. Let's stop it, now. PLEASE.

I just PM'd Buck. You could've ended this imediately by merely removing that offensive statement from your post, which is all I asked you to do.

Just so you know, I am still waiting for you to tell me what gives you more authority on Christianity than an actual Christian. ;) :p

One other quick little note: No scholar, Christian or otherwise, has more authority on Biblical matters than the Bible. Thus is why they are called Biblical matters.

I have an idea, fable. Why don't you use your opinions instead of the opinions of scholars of something you don't even believe in? Hmmm? I am curious to know why you read and, supposedly, study the Bible if you don't believe it, nor have any intention of believing it.

Alright.

I've got a few questions that get back on the original topic.

Does anyone know the origins of Rangers? Is the origin of the term Rangers for the class in D&D similar to the origin of Forest Rangers and Texas Rangers(not the Baseball team)?

Also, what about Gnolls and Goblins? What are their origins?

Is there any AD&D stuff/creatures/etc that originates from Eastern Mythology as opposed to Western Mythology?

@SS: This is by no means an attack. But, often, the veiws of a Christian, or Arab, or whatever religion you are often clouded about your own religion because of the blind faith often exhibited in those beliefs. Fable was merely speaking from the point of veiw, factually, as a non-christian (I think he's non-christian) You took that and thought it was an attack, which it was not. This is all I will say on this matter.

@Ysh, and Sleep: I know continuing this should've been done in PM's, but I felt this was something everything should read, as it has occured many times.

I'm no expert on AD&D and mythology, but I heard Tolkien was influenced by Northern European myth and tales etc. (I watched a TV program about Tolkien and his creation last night :D ). It could be, therefore, goblin and gnolls are in the Scandinavian or Celtic myths.

As for the AD&D, I've never come across any AD&D based on the Eastern mythology, though I'm not a serious computer gamer either :D . Having said that, I'll not be surprised if I find any such games in Japan, regardless the format.

It is a simple question to answer.

There were five guys, sitting around a table. Smoking some ass kicking weed. You see they had just come back from Holland, from the hash bash. When they got home, they decided to take all the maryjane that they bought and mix it together. They figured that mixing all the weed together, they would be able to see god.
They twisted about 5 lbs into a huge joint, man. Then smoke it, they didn't see god, but they were able to come up with all the D&D stuff, man. They also went out to every grocery store and bought all the twinkies and ding dongs they could find.
That is how D&D came about. But after reading Fable's posted explaination, I figured there were 6 guys who smoke that ass kicken weed, man.

As for any Eastern monsters in AD & D..Djinn, Efreet, Rakshasas in BG2 are Eastern. There are also in the PNP game Shedu, Oriental Dragons with different characteristics and powers than the chromatic/metallic dragons which are western versions. Foxwomen are Japanese IIRC, Couatl are based on South American traditions and Ki Rin are Eastern. I'm sure there are others but I can't remember any more right now.

W0ot W0ot!!!!!
no wunder i fell in luv with D&D at a young age....lol!
What a simply wunderful reply ;) great way to bust up the arguement, man....hehe
From what i remember of D&D in the late 70's early 80's was that all the "rockers & stoners" played it....and there were tons of christian groups that wanted it banned....they even held big D&D book burning parties in the streets...no kidding...look it up, i'm sure you'll find sumthing bout it on the net. What a bunch of nonsense...i plan on giving my D&D 1st edition to my kids :)

on the first coupl;e posts in here be4 it went all whacky religion bs....i think fable hit things pretty close to the X...unless you want to nit pick words bout specific spellings or blah blah blah....i would like to add that Gary Gaxx made D&D with a fried (don't remember his name)...look it up you can find tons bout the early days ;) now beyong what Fable said the rest was made up by these two d0ods...well into the 80's...not sure last books they did but it was in 2nd edition....anyways too bad this thread went so far of topic....lol

Foxwomen? I remember reading about female fox spirits that possessed young women to seduce men in Japanese mythology. There's something like that in AD&D?
