I have finished the trial and am in the Temple but the cleansing ritual wont trigger. The priest tells me to follow him but then he just stands there and nothing happens. I have tried to reload the game several times and have also went and gotten my party but nothing happens. Kelghar is no where to be seen and Shandra cannot join party. And, no, I don't have a previous save to restore to before the trial. That would be too easy.
I downloaded the new patch yesterday and it hasn't changed anything.

First, I think you really should have put spoiler in the title, but that may just be me.
Secondly, you have been bitten by the Missing Companion bug (Khelgar in this case, as when you are told to follow the priest, he is supposed to get in a few words). If I can find the link, I'll re-post it, but basically, you need to reload a save from before, when you KNOW Khelgar is around, and proceed from there.
Thirdly, this bug is mostly fixed, BUT:
The patch doesn't fix a savegame that is already affected by it. It only prevents it from happening from the point where you installed it onwards.
EDIT:

Good Luck!
