Icewind Dale Error

Post by Rexen »

When I try to leave Easthaven for the first time with Hrothgar the game either will freeze and I have to alt f4 or sometimes turn off my computer

or the game will say in a blue screen

"Icewind Dale error media removed from Drive...Please insert Icewindale CD2 in cd-rom drive"

My cd2 is allready in the drive and when I try to put it in again no luck...

I have the patch installed and no mods at all so I have no clue whats up...

I also have allready tried reinstalling wiping and what not no luck...

Any ideas?

Do you have different CD/DVD-ROM drives?
Something that *might* work: Look for your icewind.ini file in your IWD directory. Make a back-up, then open it with a text-editor, like Notepad. Under Game Options, I believe, there should be a line that says something like: "Disc1: D:\", or whatever your CD-ROM drive is from which you installed the game. Change that to, for example: C:\BlackIsle\IWD\Disc1. Change the line for Disc2 to something appropriate.
Now, make two folders, with the paths you used above. In our example: C:\BlackIsle\IWD\Disc1 and C:\BlackIsle\IWD\Disc2. Copy the whole of CD1 to the first folder and the whole of CD2 to the second.
The game will now look for new areas directly on your harddrive. This does not mean that you can play without discs, but you do not longer need to swap them.

I hope that helps...

The [Alias] is what we're looking for. ;)
Normally, under C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Icewind Dale\CD1\, you should have that folder. Copy the contents of CD1 in there, same for CD2 in its folder. You may also try to change the first CD1 in HD0, like the line above, so that you'd get:
HD0:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Icewind Dale\
HD0:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Icewind Dale\CD1\
HD0:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Icewind Dale\CD2\

Then it looks in order. Not garantueed to work, but worth a shot. Have you already tried using your other CD drive?

Goodluck!
