UAE and Saudi cut diplomatic ties with the Talebans

United Arab Emirates cut the ties with Kabul Saturday, and now Saudi Arabia is doing the same. Pakistan is now the only country in the world that still recognises the Talebans.

Saudi's full statement is very interesting considering the major role Saudi has in the Muslim world with both Mecca and Medina within its' borders.

Been wondering when the US will come up with strong evidences against OBL, as these would surely reconsider the "right-of-center" stance of some countries that support the US but won't allow the use of their land as launching bases for US troops.

So far, there are just identified(?) persons "linked" to OSB and other terrorist groups.

*sigh!* The truth is out there...

The US-gov. have said they will release hard facts this wedensday. It's interesting to see what they have found out, and let's hope it indeed is as hard as they promise

Frankly, I can't see the Saudi's severing diplomatic status with the Taliban as a positive development. No nation should ever, EVER, had diplomatic relations with the Taliban in the first place. This is not an opinion I came to due to the 11. September attack, but simply because the Taliban are an absolutely evil dictatorship. I cannot even tell you the horror stories I have heard came out of that nation.

I think that the UAE and Saudi cut is a very positive devlopment.

Saudi has supported the Talibans finacially since the middle of the 1990's, and is also reported to have aided the Taliban's with freight of weapons and ammunition. The loss of support from Saudi does not only mean loss of funds, it's also a great loss of face to lose support from 2 of the only 3 countries who have ever recognized them.

Now, only Pakistan is left.

Evidence counts for didly squat in the greater scheme of things. Whether or not the US provides convincing proof of Bin Laden's involvment, Afghanistan will still be attacked covertly or otherwise. If Bush doesn't retaliate or fails to show the American public the fruits of his retaliation, he'll lose the presidency in 2004. And those who believe the Taliban will surrender Bin Laden once cogent, irrefutable proof is thrust before their faces are deluding themslves. The gathering/demanding of evidence is a delaying tactic being played by both sides, and nothing more.

I see it a different way. I agree that believing the Taliban will give up OBL is foolish, but I don't think this is just a delaying tactic. They hope that the Taliban will give up OBL, but are prepared for him not to. "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst." I'm just an 18-year-old college girl who pays little to no attention to the news, so I'm probably wrong...that's just the way I see it, is all.
