Help confront the king (spoiler)
Help confront the king (spoiler)
How do I kill Manimarco? My weapons and spells go right through him as if he isn't there. He's perfectly capable of hurting me though. Very annoying... I have the giant black soul gem, so I think I did everything right. Please help.

Unbeatable
Yes I've listened to his little speach. The giant black soul gem is filled with Traven's soul, I have an enchanted deadric sword and several enchanted bows and arrows. None seem to hurt him. I once fought him for more than an hour, I had no potions left and all my armour was worn down and Mannimarco didn't have a scratch!!!
Please help! I've reached all the top advancements in all the guilds except the mages guild, because Mannimarco is unbeatable...

Sounds like a glitch - he's tough, but you should be able to hurt him with weapons or spells. I'm guessing from your description that his health meter (curved white line over the cursor when you put the cursor on him) doesn't go down when you hit him? If not, your best bet might be to load a saved game from before you talked to him.
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

Confront the KIng Glich
I GOT IT!!!!
The claws do not come up automatically, so go and talk to the King of Worms. At this point he will start attacking you with spells and phisical weapons. How I broke the glich was that i kept the cursor on his feet and attacked him with flame spells when he got close to me. After a while his health finnaly went down and he was defeated. The one bad thing was that the claws stayed up and i had to jump over them using the concrete pillers in between the alters to get out of the cave. Make sure to keep an eye on his health and it will start going down, but it is very gradual, so have patience with it and you will defeat the King of Worms.
Thats how I got through my glich.

The age old question, PC or Xbox?
This mainly because on PC you have many player made fixes to download, and here is one for the Mannimarco problem: The Elder Scrolls Source - Oblivion Modifications and Plugins
But if you are unlucky and your version of the game is on Xbox, you will have to buy a spell of Water Breathing, or wear any item with that effect. Why? Well you see, Mannimarco is standing on an island, and islands are surrounded by water. So if you stay at the bottom of the lake, he will eventually drown and quest will update, you've killed Mannimarco.

drowning technique
I have tried the strategy of using a waterbreathing spell and having mannimarco swim down after me, but he doesnt seem to want to drown...for some strange reason. once he was under water, he attacked me, blah blah blah, but then instead of just running out of air like a good AI, he went up and got air then came down and proceeded to kick my arse summore. I'm pretty sure my game has a hxc glitch. Any help would be appreciated. And in case you were wondering, I already tried the old fashioned way of killing him: swinging with a sword and the like, but it was to no avail.

Confront the King quest glitch
My weapons were also not working against Mannimarco but I was still able to defeat him using the drowning technique.
I did this on my Xbox 360 after the patch update. I don't know if it works for the PC, but I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't.

I'm not sure what an hxc glitch is but hopefully this will help. What you must do to keep Mannimarco from going up for air is have him follow you into a tunnel underneath the water. When he goes up for air he will be blocked by the ceiling of the tunnel and unable to get air. I'm not sure if there is more than one tunnel underwater, but you can get to the one I used by going to the southeast corner of the island Mannimarco is on and walking off the corner into the water. Then, head in a direction that is between south and southeast as Mannimarco follows you. Once you find the tunnel, have Mannimarco positioned below the ceiling of the tunnel so he cannot go up for air. An advantage to killing Mannimarco this way is that he doesn't attack you too many times before going up for air at which point he stops attacking you. I suppose you could attack him during this time (if your attacks were working) although you don't need to as he will die in a short while from not being able to reach the surface and get air. The quest updates after he dies.sparky1321 wrote:I have tried the strategy of using a waterbreathing spell and having mannimarco swim down after me, but he doesnt seem to want to drown...for some strange reason. once he was under water, he attacked me, blah blah blah, but then instead of just running out of air like a good AI, he went up and got air then came down and proceeded to kick my arse summore. Here are some bugs related to that quest:
For 360 Users, don't be alarmed if you don't immediately get your 50 GamerScore points for finishing, about 15 seconds after you finish talking to Raminus and start walking around you'll get it.
It is possible for Bolor Savel to never appear in front of the cave. Reloading old saves will fix the problem, but they need to be very old saves, possibly from the early Mage Guild quests or before beginning them altogether.
Mannimarco cannot be hit until you have triggered his speech (so no stealth kills by poisoned blade or arrow). Unfortunately, a bug frequently occurs (still present even with v 1.1.511 patch) that means he still cannot be hit afterward. Not even NPCs allied with you (or at least hostile to Mannimarco) will be able to hurt him as well. You can do this to fix it: If no amount of re-loading fixes the problem, one workable solution is to engage Mannimarco in dialog and then when he starts attacking you, run to the edge along the water and push him into it. Jump in after him, enable some type of Water Breathing effect, and then force him (or let him follow you if he does) into the underwater tunnel. In the tunnel block all his attacks until he drowns because he runs out of air. You will then get confirmation that you have killed him and you can finally progress with the game.
It is possible that the bone railings will not rise after Mannimarco's speech.
If you don't kill Mannimarco yourself (e.g. he is killed by a summoned creature or by reflected magic) the bone railings surrounding his island don't always go down again, and you could be stuck inside. Some solutions are: While fighting him, lure Mannimarco back over the bridge you came on. Then when the bone fingers come up you will be on the right side. By going behind the curtain you can actually squeeze around the end of the bone fingers at the left of the altar as you face it. Then jump over onto the land, or if you fall in the water, you'll need to swim out of the tunnel at the opposite end of the room.
There are rare cases where it is possible to run up to him and kill him straight away, before he has the chance to paralyze you.
Sometimes, for unknown reasons, Hannibal Traven does not sacrifice himself. If reloading an earlier save results in the same, pickpocket Traven for the Filled Collosal Black Soul Gem (Be sure not to get caught pickpocketing him, or you will be kicked out of the Mages Guild), or, as technically you don't need it, proceed without the gem. Continue with the quest as normal, and when you return to the Mages Guild, Traven will be gone and you will be Arch-Mage.
A minor bug can occur before the fight begins. If you have very high acrobatics and speed, you can run and jump to the side of where The King of Worms is standing. If done correctly, the bone fingers will rise and you will be catapulted out into the water. Then you must cross the bridge and talk to him through the fingers. Spells, arrows, and summons can be used to kill him through the fingers. When he dies, the fingers should go down, and you can proceed as normal.

Try using the underwater passages, you should be able to find them easily enough.

Wow! My problem used to be that, my character would kill himself or herself at the same time that Mannimarco died, because one or both, were wearing something that reflected something back at the opponent. So I kept trying various apparel arrangements until only Mannimarco died.
But some of the problems I read about here, also seem familiar to me.
I like to loot the fallen, so I try not to defeat them by a means that makes them unlootable, like say, casting Polymorph Sheep, because then all I get is Mutton.
However, it is possible to get a head start on Mannimarco. Go talk to him with your bow pre-drawn. Then once you've exhausted all the dialogue options, aim at his face and release your arrow. "Rince and repeat."

Shhh! Be very quiet! I may be sleep writing and sleep reading!
