I've been wearing a piece of each type of armor - Light, Medium, Heavy and leave one shoulder unarmored. It seems I uplevel each catagory, but at a slow rate. Is this a good way to go?
I'm also starting to enchant my armor. It seems strength, shield and sanctuary are a good combo. How does ebony armor rate against others for enchanting?

possible spoiler if u like learning for ur self
From my own experience in the game ebony armor has pretty good enchanting capability <was one of the highest I found > I measured glass indroil ebony and deadric the glass greaves however beat out deadric greaves I dont remember about the ebony ..... but I do know overall ebony finished second to deadric which is a little more difficult to accuire.if ur going armor rating tho your armor gets better for that armor type the more increased your skill ex heavy armor was at 75 I believe and deadric (heavy) armor was 220 rating which was a great surprise I have also found enchanting you want to get the exquisite type you can enchant clothes you wear in under you armor, amulets ,rings, all parts of armor , a belt as well as weapons I havent really been playing this time thru to get the full experience (health code) so I enchanted most of my armor with fortify stregnth and willpower constantly to allow myself to wear heavy armor and carry quite a bit of loot

I would suggest concentrating on a single type of armor, one that fits your character from both a roleplaying and personal perspective. Work at leveling that--it will still take quite a while, even with the fish trick. (That's when you wear your armor and stand around in a local body of water, letting the fish take bites out of you. Works well if you have the healing spells to keep pumping your health up.) Then, after you've developed that armor quite a bit, you might want to start a second. If you mix and match, then attacks on you are going to raise one type of armor for every hit. This really slows things down.
But of course, that's just my suggestion.

Thanx- I'm playing as a Wood Elf relying on speed and agility. For roleplaying, it doesn't make sense to up my heavy armor, but I like the extra enchanting capabilities of some of the heavy armor/shields. I didn't know the fish trick.
I was using the kwama foragers, but the fish make sense. Do they only attack your legs? If so you could really isolate the level of armor you want to work on.

kwama foragers generaly attack shoes and legs, just as racers often attack helmet/shoulders.
its one thing to consider when attacking: swinging at someones legs the whole time might cause his armor there to drop, a lot, while body goes slower
my reason for practicing with different types of armor: heavy armor isnt always practical (*low strength), but since i got block up, light shields just fall apart
