xidette question (spoiler)

Post by Valonia »

I've completed this fortress which leads me to the Duchess' gardens after climbing a ladder. I've killed the few guards for the key needed to get into the House of Dementia but they don't have it and it is not in the Duchess' bedroom which is the only other door. Since I'm after the point where she has turned traitor, don't think she is showing up. I've tried to get back down the ladder but it is a bust of the mad god and clicking on it does nothing. Does anyone have a solution or am I stuck going to an earlier save which would suck as this is a big fortress. Maybe I have screwed up by doing this at this point in the game?
Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately, you're probably stuck because both doors need a key and only Syl can open the secret passage using the bust, and she won't be back. SPOILER:
Spoiler
If you had gone after Syl instead of Thadon during The Ritual of Accession, she would have opened the door using the bust and you would have gone the other way through the dungeon)
.

Two possibilities. First, you can get out if you have completed the main Shivering Isles quest and you have a way to injure yourself (self-damaging spell or magic item like the Blackwood Ring of Silence from the FG quest, some highly poisonous ingredients like a poison apple, or if you can summon creatures and taunt them into attacking you), Cast the power 'Sheogorath's Protection' (acquired at the end of the main quest), and do whatever it takes to kill yourself. You will be teleported back to the throne room when you die.

Second, if you're playing on PC, you can use a console command to teleport to a different area or just unlock one of the doors.

Console Commands please! Thank you!

I have not finished the main quest but am past where I became the Lady of Mania so Syl is not coming back. I thought about teleporting out but no markers show when I call up the map. (NO FAIR!) So I am in need of a console command to teleport or unlock the door if someone could please be so kind. At least I know I wasn't missing something obvious by not being able to gt back into the fortress (a distinct possibility as I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to puzzles - especially if spatial ability is needed!) (yes this means I can't back up in my car too) :)

The easiest one is to bring up the console, click on the door to select it (the object id should display near the middle of the top of the screen when it's selected), and then type "unlock" (without the quotes).

If that doesn't work, the teleport command looks like this:

player.coc [location code]

but somebody else will have to provide the location code. I have Oblivion on 360 and PC but I only have SI on 360, so I can't look up any SI locations codes. I don't think you can teleport to a location code in Cyrodiil from the Isles. Although I guess you could just try it and see:

player.coc BravilChapelGreatHall

Hurray! Thank you Belthan!

The unlock command did not work - I kept getting asked for a reference and no combo of references worked e.g. "wooden door to house of dementia", "door to house of dementia", etc. but that could have been my error. However, the teleport command worked great - found myself standing on the table in the Bravil great hall and teleported back to the isles portal. When I first went through tho, thought it wouldn't work as there were no isles map markers but once I went through the Gates of Madness, everything was there including the map marker for my next quest - remaking the staff.

Thank you once again for your assistance Exalted One! :)
